Canon: Final Fantasy XIV (Shadowbringers | 5.0 The View From Above)

SPOILERS OPT-OUT POST is here.

About: Emet-Selch is presented as a villain, one of the Ascians who have been sowing chaos throughout the world in order to bring about Calamities. When he reveals himself to the party, however, he claims to be an observer, saying he likes to watch and then proposing that they embark on a path of cooperation. He spends much of his time lurking in the shadows and snarking about things at the most inappropriate of times (while also slowly revealing a wealth of knowledge about the workings of the world). He is grumpy and dramatic, swinging from theatrical highs to depressed and exasperated lows (though much of this, quite frankly, is an act). In reality, he's very fond of scheming, conspiring, and building up empires, and is incredibly gifted magically. He's also a patron of the arts and enjoys literature, theatre, and long naps - at least a century or so is preferable.

For anyone else who can see souls, his is deep purple in color and quite powerful.

[SPOILERS; highlight for details:] Emet-Selch is a 12,000+ year old ancient and nigh immortal being who existed in a purportedly peaceful and prosperous utopia before the world was shattered into weaker, broken pieces. His whole modus operandi is to bring about large scale catastrophic events to glue it all together again and ultimately have their god resurrect their lost civilization at the cost of all (in his opinion, lesser) lifeforms currently dwelling upon them. Originally he held a government office of sorts and was a specialist in matters related to the Underworld (as the name would suggest, the aetherial realm where dead souls return to in order to be cleansed and then reborn into new life).

Since the Sundering, he's gone on to build up numerous nations, even spending about sixty years as emperor of Garlemald. Along with it, he is a longterm planner, has military experience and has helped to bring major magitechnological advances to his various pet projects. He's also a great-grandfather (believe it or not), though his current (read: cloned) body is that of a man still in his prime.

Abilities: Soul Sight (if you'd like to provide details about your character's soul, link is here!), Creation Magicks, Aether Manipulation, Teleportation, Transformation... it's honestly a lot, but if you see him standing around snapping his fingers, he's likely DOING SOMETHING.
Dreamwalker Form: His form will change depending on need. But the most likely will be a variation of his Ancient appearance (white hair, glowing yellow eyes, up to 20 feet tall).

Plans:
Learning more about The Story Eater and the still missing moon Network post here!

I plan to post another passive dreamscape later this month dealing with one of his associates (Elidibus) and maybe some allusions to things taking place on the moon of the Source. This will be a sort of catalyst for him beginning to develop unique dreamotion abilities inspired by the other members of the Convocation.

I'd be interested in the Dream Board quest about the Fae Moon Mirror if anyone would be interested in collaborating on that! He's also working somewhat with Madhuri and co in developing a new "Dreamer's Moon" (or at least keeping an eye on them).

Much of his month will be spent doing research within the new library as well as checking out the observatory where he will be using his regain bauble to look into a forgotten moment from his past (something which will ultimately take at least four months to resolve, but the hope is for him to eventually, eventually regain his memory of Elpis).

Hythlodaeus may be doing a dreamotion concept review and you can expect him to silently judge everyone and everything - although he might look a bit different from usual.

CR Dreams: He'll play well (or not so well) with essentially anyone, but I'd particularly love to connect him with more like-minded characters who have lost all (or never had it to begin with) and are willing to see morality in shades of gray. Though no longer bound to it, darkness is still his friend. He takes personal interest in all sorts of magicks, anything related to the spirit realm, or the world of the dead. And, for some lighter fare, it warms my heart whenever he does good deeds or acts as a mentor to others, so I'd like to see him (slowly, eventually) finding himself some pupils after one fashion or another (if he deems anyone worthy, of course!). Perhaps once he's mastered dreamotion (or while he's still struggling to tame it) he might be willing to assist others (or be bullied into doing so). Oh yes! And he dislikes heroes. Which means you all must dogpile on top of him.

Etc.:
