Player Plot: Noctaere Alastor (Timing Details)

Now that we know the Halloween Event will be taking place and when, I've worked out the timing for the Noctaere Alastor plot. Didn't want it to interfere with the mods' stuff, so I'll be posting everything on October 10th though ICly it takes place October 15th. Plenty of time for people to rest and recover for Halloween funtimes.

Also most of you in the poll on the original post said to flip a coin. Well, the Connecticut quarter has spoken, and you're in for a boss battle!

The Setup

Alastor isn't as strong as he would be in Hell, but he's going to make you work for the victory. Think of it like facing down a Dark Souls boss: Go in with intel and expect to take a few nasty hits.

Alastor's noctaere form resembles his full demon form: He's slightly taller and much more spindly with some wickedly-large antlers. His time in the woods has been spent trying to bring it back under control, to revert back to his typical self. Unfortunately, those attempts have failed, and his sanity has been largely overwhelmed.

He's taken over a dark part of the woods that he seized from wild noctaere in hopes of scaring people off while he tried to fix himself, but the lingering negative energy likely just made things worse.

Attempt to Lead Away

With his last bits of sanity, he will try to lead the group away by having his shadow friends take on his usual form to try and lead people away. Anyone with Zelda will see shadows of her friends Mipha, Urbosa, and Purah from Hyrule thanks to the dream Alastor wandered into before he left.

However, continuing deeper into the darkened part of the forest, you will discover where he's made his lair.

Boss Battle: Noctaere Alastor

Alastor has definitely gone off the deep end. He will chide his "rescuers" for not following the shadows and leaving when they had the chance. He will then thank them for coming, claiming he hasn't had a proper meal since his arrival in Reverein.

Each of the following phases will have their own thread starter so things can progress more or less swiftly. Be aware: Your character will probably get hit at least once by something if they participate in the fight. No one will die, but don't expect to get away perfectly clean even if it's just some light burns from a mostly-dodged flame attack. If there's something you want specifically to happen or not happen to your character, let me know in the Plotting thread below.

Phase 1. Alastor is fresh, so expect his usual tricks of teleportation, claws, and fire only amped up by his noctaere form. He'll also use his shadow as a distraction to attempt to get in close for a strike and then teleport away. If the group clusters together, he'll use packets of powder he put together which ignite and spread the flames when he hits them with a fireball.

Phase 2. Alastor will have started bleeding and will use his blood to summon a pair of Eldritch tentacles to attack the group with in addition to his own attacks. His shadow will revert to being just a normal shadow as doing this on top of his injuries will weaken him. The tentacles can be destroyed with some effort, and it's encouraged you do so since he can't resummon them. The tentacles fight via swiping at enemies or grappling and squeezing them.

Phase 3. Alastor has lost his tentacle summons and will be on his last legs, so he'll revert to only claws and fangs. He's at his weakest in this part of the fight but arguably most violent since he'll be desperately trying to protect himself. In this phase, it's possible to use dreamotion to calm him, to soothe him instead of just knocking him unconscious.

If you're interested in using the environment to your advantage, the thicket is primarily a thick set of brambles on three sides, so you have Alastor more or less cornered. He's also set up tables with various herbs and a few jugs of kirin oasis water from his experiments, his three moonstones sitting blackened on one of them. Anyone with knowledge of using herb magic to counter some of his moves or just to get things nice and soggy so they don't burn can make use of these items. Or, y'know, you could chuck a table at him. Go nuts.

Curing Alastor

With Alastor's noctaere form defeated, it's time to use dreamotion to get all that gunk out of him and revert him back to the Alastor you all know and...tolerate. Though if you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of something else, too.
