NEW MOON! Needs energy.

Howdy!

So to keep things super brief, Madhuri has taken it upon herself to try and create a new moon. Her present method of doing so is to gather all legends/tales/memories involving every world's moon. If your character's world has any general story of the moon, if they've had a good memory involving gazing up at it with a loved one or anything in that ballpark, Maddie would love to hear about it.

In her world, memories and knowledge can be crystallized for later recollection or education, thus explaining the job stones in the world known as Eorzea for starters (like Maddie having her Dancer job crystal containing the knowledge/experiences of past dancers, enabling her to know of the different dances/techniques without prior fundamental training). She wagers she can build layers and layers of crystal over a core sort of like a dreamotion jawbreaker, which she hopes will soon be big enough to be sent into the sky to be a replacement moon.

By 'soon', she's had her expectations tempered: This endeavor will take a number of months at least, few if she has a lot of help.

The purpose of this post is to broadly handwave the exchange of knowledge/stories, if not be able to chronicle just how much help she gets. If your character would help, please comment to this post and what stories/knowledge/legends/songs exist in their particular world involving the moon they would happen to know. Even information like, "Our moon was blue" or "We have three of them" is still better than nothing!

(Of course, your character can also very well be a brat and make up some bullcrap too. Madhuri wouldn't be able to tell the difference if she hasn't seen your world's moon(s). vOv )

Technically two moons in Alastor's experience though not sure how useful Madhuri will find them to be.

First is the moon of the living world. In Alastor's experience, it's a rock floating through the sky that people write songs and make legends about. The "man in the moon" and it being made of cheese are two popular stories about it. Then of course are all the love songs, poems, and whatever surrounding it. (He'll share some of the music with her if necessary.)

Then is the "moon" of Hell which is actually just Heaven chilling out in the sky:

It's that halo'd orb in the upper left.

Also contributing to the party of two moons...

Because of the nature of fusion, Gaia has two moons, one being it's own blue-hued moon and the second being Terra's red moon. Both have their orbit and varying distance from the planet, but occasionally cross in a purple eclipse above the world. The colors of the moons are actually revealed to be reflective of the planet's core/crystal with Gaia's being blue with Terra's being red.

There's no other stories for him to share about it in that regard. So, if they want the moon to show a measurement of the world's health, there ya go...

Anya

Assuming that Slavic Mythology is the same in Anya’s world, she does mention that in that part of her Earth, the Slavic people in the west used to believe that there is a moon goddess named Devana who is the Slavic equivalent to Artemis/Diana and is also the goddess of hunt, forests, and wild life. She protects the wildlife in the region and heals animals from any injuries they may have from being hunted, her most associated animal is the bear. Many women in the old days would sacrifice a herb called Artemisia (aka verbascum) to Devana as herbs play a significant role to celebrations to Slavic deities and hang them on their houses when the day of her celebrations arrives.

Sometimes she could be worshiped alongside Morana the Slavic goddess of death as a dual faced entity similar to Hel, with one face of life and one face of death, and to Persephone who spends one half of the year on Earth and another half in the Underworld with her husband Hades.

It is even said that during the Christianization of the Slavic tribes, she may have taken the form of Our Lady of Thunder Candle who walks during cold winter nights and protects the crops from freezing with her candle and accompanied by a wolf and a basket of lark birds signaling the coming of spring.

You can find more information on her in this video and this article

Sholmes would find this whole idea charmingly strange and happily offer a few things:

- The Great Moon Hoax. tl;dr -- in 1835, a series of articles claimed that various creatures and a society of monsters were discovered on the moon by means of a special new telescope. From here, Sholmes would probably go on a tangent about Edgar Allen Poe's similar story.

- An impromptu violin recital of Debussy's "Clair de Lune"

- And add to what will probably become a growing pile of miscellaneous poems (and/or passages of Shakespeare) that evoke the moon, recalled from memory and possibly misattributed.

Trahearne

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2022-03-29 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
Tyria has one moon, considered a part of nature in general. Myths as a whole don't really seem to expand on it very much.

Trahearne in particular would offer his first memory of the moon: having been born in the Cycle of Dusk, one of his earliest memories would have been watching the sun set and the moon rise in the east. He'd also talk a bit about sylvari who awaken in the Cycle of Night (described as secretive and self-contained) and his three firstborn siblings who are night blooms. Maybe it's not about the moon specifically, but he would have first seen them under the light of the moon. like I said, scant lore come on guild wars two get your act together

There's one time of year where everyone's attention turns to the moon, though, and that's Halloween. It's around this time of year that the mad human king Thorn is allowed out of the Mists to play games and tell bad jokes. His presence seems to have a strange effect on the moon - when he's in Lion's Arch, the moon above the city transforms into a terrifying, madly grinning--oh lfmao yall seen this moon already?

Luca will come to her and attempt to scientifically describe the Earth's Moon from memory. This coming from a late Victorian-era scientist with memory issues, so some details might come out a bit off... But yeah. Regular earth moon.

He does not have a lot of mythology surrounding their moon, but that he's had good memories looking up at it and especially having drunken fun times with the Ichigang.

Naminé

[personal profile] lethechained 2022-04-04 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Naminé will attempt to explain that one time that a shady Organization tried to create a heart-shaped moon by collecting hearts in an effort to achieve their long-term goals. She probably won't get into the details of any of it, since a lot of it's kind of sensitive material for her, but she will definitely be willing to provide a hand-drawn picture!

Beyond that, there are plenty of other moons in various other worlds that she can describe as well, although she's a bit spotty on the lore for any of them. (Other than that the moon in the last world she visited before coming to Songerein was haunted, apparently???)

Unfortunate context notwithstanding, Naminé can confirm it was kind of a neat-looking moon before it got a big chunk blasted out of it.

And honestly yeah, she would also like to know what the heck it is with moons and being haunted. Do the ghosts just really like the cold vacuum of almost-space? Is it a popular spectral vacation destination??? It is a mystery.

Long, long before Dalamud was forged to imprison an elder primal, the eldest of them all — savior of the star — was sealed within a moon of His own.

Souls selflessly offered up to grant Him life yet slumber and dream of the day He, we, and our beloved star will again be made whole.

All is silent there amongst the Sea of Stars, there where He awaits us in His cold, monochromatic cradle.

"Why?" you might ask, "Why grant your faith to a dark lord whom Hydaelyn herself saw fit to smite and sunder?"

And to that, I say, it is because we were the ones who birthed Him. He became will of the star made manifest, born of our hopes to shepherd this world to a future beyond the bleak terror we had suffered during the Final Days. Born of life and love and a warmth which became little more than a half-remembered dream as we saw our number halved and halved again.

We might well have lost our way, and then it happened. All at once we saw a shimmering light pouring forth from Zodiark's breast only to resolve into the shape of a man. As he looked us over with our mouths all agape, he offered what could only be called an earnest smile. Ever eager to fulfill his duty; ever open in his admiration.

"Fear not..." He said. And it was at this moment we recognized the heart of Zodiark himself, the one so many of us looked to as a younger brother or at least the closest professional equivalent. His name "divine law", so fitting of one who would become our Emissary.

"Fear not. You will make the right choice. And I will see it through."

He contemplated a lot on whether this would be worth sharing, but what the heck.

In his world, the moon was initially a foreign object in the night sky that the Skydwellers didn't really know much about it. Many believed it was a huge star and then there was thought it was another island set in the far distant skies. It's only recently that they discovered that people from thousands of years ago had built ships capable of breaking through the earth's atmosphere and into the cosmos to settle onto the moon in an attempt to escape the mess that was happening at the time (gods having a fit, long story, not getting into it). Those people are known as "moondwellers" and have formed an advanced society called Central Axis. They are capable of highly advanced technology including altering and "rebuilding" their bodies to be as "perfect" and "efficient" as possible (read: basically like AI complete with speaking in machine language) which allows them have to centuries long lifespans and capable of creating weapons that can turn into automaton machines. They have made several attempts to invade the Skydom but have been thwarted. They have not given up, but the next attempt isn't slated for another several hundred years.

Despite the threat that lurks on the moon, the casual layperson wouldn't know about it so there are also more common stories that one would expect to hear. And although he knows his enemy operates on the moon, he's also made friends with those who came from it or were descendants of the original moondwellers. So he can't see the moon as a terrible thing, especially when before those revelations he always looked upon it and found it peaceful and relaxing.
