DREAM NOTES #12: AUGUST 1, 2022

GUUUYS can you believe that Song will have been around for a full year and next month will be the official first year anniversary? We had our first TDM last year in August…and we'll have another one as applications will open again in September. It's also our event month so a few details in the notes!

CALENDAR

Here is our current schedule for the month:

8/01: Plot With Me Meme
8/03: ATP/EMP
~8/12: Oz Event
8/17: Test Drive
8/25: Reserves Open
8/29-37: Activity Check
9/01: Dream Notes #13 and new Dream Board; Apps open
9/03: Apps close 11:59PM US Central
9/04~05: Apps processed; Player Intro; CR Meme; Game Log
9/28-30: Activity Check
DREAM TREND: This month's dream trends may involve any of the following themes: traveling; stormy weather; statues of loved ones
WEATHER: It is windy, with occasional strong gusts of wind that are strong enough to knock down loose items. Strangely enough, the "windy weather" is mostly around the town with it being more mild outside of it. Just beware of anything that might be flying around—was that a cow caught in the wind!?
OTHER NOTES: Although no tornadoes will spring up, dust devils might appear. They're not very strong, but if one gets caught in one, they will be temporarily trapped floating inside it until it either dissipates or someone is able to break it up via draemotion.

It's windy for Ozgust and is only fitting for our upcoming event. Since it is event month, as usual we don't have too much extra on the docket aside from the dream board.

As mentioned we have apps opening next month, so Test Drive will be going up later this month as well.

ACTIVITY CHECK RESULTS

Congratulations to everyone who commented on our Activity Check! The following characters were removed from the game:

Gracious Skylark [personal profile] inspiteful
Merisia Thenel [personal profile] likescaves
Otto Octavius [personal profile] sciencesquid
Rinwell [personal profile] owlstral
Thoma [personal profile] burnbrighter
Ventus [personal profile] brokenlight
Zidane Tribal [personal profile] tantalizing

If anyone was swept because they missed AC, you can reapply in the next cycle. Just fair warning, we will notice if this happens more than once and we may not allow immediate reapplication the next time.

This puts our player population to 64/75, which means our new player reserve/apps slots are at a maximum 11. Genshin Impact is no longer capped but it only has 1 open slot.

WORLD UPDATES

Be it new NPCs, creatures, places, or some other discovery or creation, the world of Songerein continues to grow!

Of note, carriages are now available for common transportation. The development of various vehicles is still in the works, but horse drawn or other animal drawn carriages can be hired as taxis to help get around town and for general transportation. The Game Info and World Directory have been updated with the major location changes. Player locations and submissions will be added soon (sorry for the delay).

Here are a few additional things as a result of the Dream Board and other submissions:

Beastiary:

  • "Turtle" or Axolturtle. Susato and Kazuma discovered a new turtle-like friend while swimming around at the beach after dark. He was caught among some rocks. He has a spiky, rock-hard shell with a fishy tail, and seems to enjoy bathing in the moonlight (and also nesting in long, human hair). He also enjoys eating glowing sea flowers as a snack. He appears to thrive in both salt- or freshwater, because he has accompanied them home and now hangs out in the Wild Harvest garden.

  • Starry Clouded Leopard. A type of small-sized wild cat, name due to the flowers that grow on it amongst fur and resemblance to another small-sized wild cat. They are curious creatures, and likely to make some denser areas of the Wildlands their home. Spend most of their time up in trees and very little on the ground, clever little hunters.

  • Botanicats. Plant cats that come in a large variety of shapes, sizes, and colors that come in quite a few other types of leafy plant. The kinds and colors will more than likely grow in their varieties as the botanicats venture out and explore, no doubt making their presence known in town. They are very cat-like in behavior and attitude. They enjoy playing around and in water, even a nice spritzing can perk them up at times.

  • Glowing Chordarta. A rather strange large salt-water fish that has bioluminescent qualities, equipped with long and sharp barbs that carries poison along its main fins; also at its tail, hidden in the ruffles of those fins. Edible when de-barbed and cooked, tastes sweet and even buttery. The poison carried in the large barbs causes a loss of feeling in the punctured area and eventually the entire limb if left untreated.

Can cause lethal sluggishness if out in the water; fish carefully.

  • Sharktopus. Exploring close to the boundary of the safe zone at the beach may have you encountering the sharktopus. It won't venture too close to shore, but people who wander too far out should beware.

Places:

  • A paopu fruit tree. A very large overhanging fruit tree that grows along the edge of the beach. The branches hang over the ocean water and the trunk is thick enough to hold the weight of two or three people. Every warm month it seems to bear bright yellow star-shaped fruit that sparkle and glow twice a day- in the early mornings and during sunset.

According to legend, "If two people share one, their destinies become intertwined. They'll remain a part of each other's lives no matter what." This gives the fruit great symbolic meaning. It's unclear if the fruit actually ties two people together but it's often seen as having the magic to bind two souls.

  • The Wild Harvest serves various western and eastern style earth-based street food dishes. A special menu is rotated every month.
Wild Harvest's specials for the month are:
1 - Fluffy Pancakes: With your choice of toppings depending on what's available for the day.
2 - S'Mores Cookie Sandwiches: Two cookies of your choice, with toasted marshmallow and chocolate sandwiched inbetween.
3 - Ice Cream Floats Carbonated drinks with a scoop of ice cream on top! Alcoholic or non.
4 - Devil's Curry: Japanese style curry made with devil peppers for extreme spiciness.
5 - Devil's Ramen: Noodle dish with devil peppers added in for extreme spiciness.

The grills are still up and there's an abundance of ice cream and lotus milk this month.
An Employee Wall and Remembrance Garden have also been setup.

Other:

  • Beatrix has inherited Zidane's chocobo, Boco, and apparently is taking care of the forest rooster in his stead. Boco is becoming a relatively permanent fixture of Beatrix's residence and quite possibly will be an overprotective guardian of her abode. Sorry if Boco jumps you. (Please feel free to use him for any plot-related things.)

  • Eustace and Tifa will be hosting a pet party at the start of August because his Flower pups are growing up and he is sad— Oh and they got engaged.

  • The choya are edible straight from the choya. Trahearne may or may not have done just that. A delicious snack when out in the wilderness!

  • Phantom hosted a concert and advertised it on the network.

  • In answer to Eustace's inquiry last month, Emet-Selch is working to develop magicks which would allow small objects to be used as power limiting devices to contain out-of-control magickal energy. His current work is only a prototype, but he hopes to eventually develop a magickal formula which will hold in and/or neutralize nightmare energy.

OZGUST

Welcome to Ozgust because it's August and it's The Wizard of Oz and there's "gust" that reference wind— Anyway, for this month's event we're going back to fictional story themes, and this time we're pulling from The Wizard of Oz!

  • Whirlwind Beginnings. Near the last weekend of the month (8/26-8/28), a giant book will appear right above Reverein. It will open its pages facing the town and a large tornado will emerge, descending down to cover the entire town. Miraculously, no buildings are destroyed, but it's going to suck up everyone into the air and transport them directly into the pages of the book. It'll be a wild ride, and once the "land" on solid ground, they'll find themselves right in the middle of the Emerald City itself.

  • Roles and Costumes. In addition, everyone is going to find themselves in new attire. Specifically, they are going to be put into random costumes that match or at least reference one of the following characters from the story. Dorothy, Toto, the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow. Duplicates are fine so players can pick whatever they wish for their character. They will be set in that role for most of the event, with opportunities to temporarily switch them in certain prompts. While in their role, the costumes can be realistic transformations or campy costumes, and characters will only have minor personality adjustments to match. For example, if someone chooses Toto for some reason, they can either be transformed into an actual dog, have partial dog transformation, or have a silly dog costume. If just in a costume, they won't be compelled to walk on fours, but they may bark and get distracted by balls and squirrels. Another example, the Tinman. Again, could experience becoming a metal man or have to wear clunky tin costume, and wishing for a heart. New abilities will also be granted related to the role, and players have full creativity over it (these are in addition to character's abilities).

  • The Plot. The question of whether this is a dreamscape or the group have actually landed inside the story is unclear. However, Emerald City is a mess and noctasers, the combination of noctaere and erasers, are lurking around. Most of the citizens have either fled or turned into statues, but there is a resistance force that will aid the dreamwalkers (although they will be highly suspicious at first given how everyone appears). Princess Ozma, the current ruler of Emerald City, has disappeared and the Wizard of Oz whom had left ages ago has reappeared—but he looks different than before and has teamed up with the Wicked Witch, wreaking havoc and causing chaos and destruction everywhere.

  • General Prompt Overview. Since this is just an event preview and the log has yet to be written, we can only give a brief outline of what kind of prompts you can expect. These are all subject to change, but should still give a general idea:

    • Recreating Scenes. Everyone is in a role for a reason, and that is because there will be generic scenes and objectives that must be done by certain character roles. There won't be any hard scripts, just an objective with character trying to be as "in character" as possible. These are meant to be done multiple times so there is no sign up; anyone can do them at any time. Characters will have the opportunity to temporarily switch their role if players are interested in a prompt their character is not originally cast in.

    • Rescue Citizens. Citizens are either trapped in fallen buildings, attacked by noctasers, or turned into statues. Help free them to help bolster morale. Healing and other medical aid will be an option.

    • Fighting Foes. There are numerous enemies that will appear, some more threatening than others, such as the The Wheelers and Winged Monkeys. Finding witches and dumping special water on them will also be a thing. Noctasers will take on some of their forms for a more difficult challenge, so who knows? Maybe some of these enemies will actually become allies. As for the Wizard, there will be chances to clash with it as well, but it will take a giant joint effort to purify it and reveal its true form.

    • Projector of Dreams. A device created by the former Wizard of Oz, it's a large screen projector capable of projecting one's dreams. There are several special headsets that the dreamers wear and will be induced into a brief nap to produce a dream. Everyone is encouraged to supply some kind of positive dream into the projector. It could be personal, it could be random. It could be passive or it could be a fun little dreamscape for everyone to hop in for a brief break from all this doom and gloom in Oz. The more dreams produced, the better Emerald City becomes as morale improves. The dreams will also be funneled into a giant emerald that will be launched directly at the Wizard at the end.

That should cover it. The log will go up either Friday or Saturday, August 12th or 13th. If you have any questions, feel free to comment to the post!

DREAM BOARD

How the Dream Board works:

  • This is all optional, the quests are just extra content for players and while they can sometimes relate to upcoming or current events, they're just kind of "filler" stuff. Some will be set out in Songerein proper while others may involve dreams.
  • The Dream Board can be found at the Plaza and quests will automatically appear on it like a bulletin board. Some will also appear in the journals. Anyone can accept them and rewards automatically generated upon completion of the task. It's a dream world, it's full of magic, it just knows.
  • Quests can be done as many times as a character would do them and rewards will be delivered to the character upon completion.
  • If you have any questions, comment to the designated subthread.

ID
QUEST
REWARD
801 Watch the Wind! IT HECKIN WIMDY OUTSIDE. With the wind kicking up so strongly, there is no shortage of damage to be found around Reverein and its outskirts. Most of it is to be expected: damaged buildings, broken tree limbs, large objects knocked over. Some of the wind’s effects, however, are a bit more… powerful. Occasionally, a gust of wind will pick up dreamers and fling them through the air. Is that a cow flying past you on the breeze? What’s with this lady on her bike? Your fellow residents would appreciate it if you helped make repairs to their property and/or get them and/or their livestock back on solid ground. Thanks and maybe a small gift for your trouble.
802 Kite Gliding. For those with a more adventurous mindset, there are activities that are only possible with the strong winds that are blowing this month. One such activity is "kite gliding"—paragliding on a giant kite while someone holds the string to keep you from flying into a cliff or a tree. Is it safe? Absolutely not! But it’s fun! A great time and maybe some broken bones! Can keep the kite.
803 Spicy Food Challenge! Test your luck with some of the hottest food around at the Wild Harvest! Made with some devil peppers grown by Asura himself, you're given a choice of either trying to finish a curry or ramen dish. If finished, you'll be given some ice cream, and a chance to suggest a dish to be added to the menu for a special of the month! Don't worry, lotus milk will also be given to those who are unable to complete the challenge to quell those fiery breaths.

(Mod Note: please include any food suggestions in your AC comment at the end of the month)
Ice cream and the chance to suggest a dish for the winners, lotus milk for the losers. Dignity optional.
804 Coastal Zoology Survey. The opening of the beach has introduced a variety of new and wonderful creatures to Songerein. Some have already been identified, but it would be great to have a comprehensive catalog! Please go out and record everything that’s out there! Written descriptions are obviously necessary, but photos and drawings would also be appreciated. A more comprehensive understanding of the beach and its inhabitants.
805 Electric Eals. One of the animals in the ocean is the electric eal, a large and increasingly aggressive animal that is being fished in very large quantities for its meat. If this overfishing continues, it won’t end well for the electric eals—or the people unfortunate enough to get close to it. The aggression is a direct result of the danger they’re in, so someone should put a stop to all of this. (Or, if you don’t care about ecology all that much, you can try catching one. They are quite tasty…) If saved from their unfortunate fate, the electric eals will become friendly.
806 Sharktopusnado. Have you heard about the sharktopus that lives in the outer reefs? Rumors say that it’s a massive, dangerous beast that won’t hesitate to eviscerate any unlucky swimmers that get too close to it. Now imagine that… but also a tornado! It’s a tornado filled with sharktopusses! Very scary stuff. Sharktopusnado: coming to a stage near you.

(Please note that Sharktopusnado is still very early in the production process. Help is needed in raising capital, costuming, set design, acting, directing, catering, finding a venue…)
Everyone who pitches in gets an early backer t-shirt!

Belatedly- for the Chordarta poison, is there a treatment available? How bad is it, does it require anything special?

It is very likely that some fishers have discovered(and passed around by word-of-mouth) that after hauling someone who has met the bad end of a Chordarta out of the ocean, it's best to submerge the wounded limb in water as hot as the individual can stand, maybe hotter; repeat this process until numbness has completely subsided. This also helps to deal with the pain as feeling returns.

Drowsiness may persist a little, but that too will pass after a good rest once all feeling has returned.

If left as is, however, the numbness will spread from the initial injured limb and can result in a slow but painless death. Eventual drowning if remaining in the water goes without saying.

Question: I realized I forgot something Alastor discovered last month since it wasn't one of the threads I turned in for AC. Should I add it here or should I just add it to this month's notes?

FYI, you've got some broken HTML in the "Botanicats" section. One of your brackets is backwards, breaking the link tag.
