DREAM NOTES #14: OCTOBER 1, 2022
WELL SEPTEMBER WAS A LOT HUH. But we all lived through the dragon invasion, huzzah! And for this month, we only have the Halloween event so we can relax a bit more as the holiday season starts rolling in.
CALENDAR

Here is our current schedule for the month:
10/01: Plot With Me Meme |
10/15: Event/TDM |
10/25: Reservations Open |
10/29-31: Activity Check |
11/01: Dream Notes #15; new Dream Board; Apps open |
11/03: Final apps due, begin processing apps |
11/04: Player Intro post; CR Meme; Local Event |
11/28-30: Activity Check |
DREAM TREND: This month's dream trends may involve any of the following themes: ghosts of the past, pumpkins, and childhood fun |
WEATHER: Fall is rolling in and that means cool weather and leaves turning brown. Overall it's mostly just a crisp fall feeling, but sometimes there is an odd wind that blows through that seems to carry…whispers in its wake, especially around Theater Row. The words are mostly not decipherable, and can sometimes sound a bit manic, but perhaps it's just someone nearby venting out frustrations. Especially something about "deadlines" and "stupid playwright." |
OTHER NOTES: After dealing with the aftermath of the dragons, the locals are gearing up for the Halloween season, with decorations going up, Holiday Haven having huge sales, and a sudden increase in ravens. But of course with it being the time for tricks and treats, it's still not quite back to being "peaceful." Check the quest board to see what kind of mischief and mayhem is happening around town. |
Spooky season is upon us! A quick note that will be mentioned again later, the Event date is an OOC date. The Halloween stuff will start on the 25th ICly and last for the rest of the month. Be sure to read the details to understand what's happening in those two weeks.
As noted in the calendar, the Halloween Event will serve as our Test Drive. This will be similar to how the Flower Festival in April doubled as our TDM. Unlike the Flower Festival, the event will be towards mid-month, so it's only 2 days earlier from our usual scheduled TDM. The rules will follow the same, which are detailed below. Everything else on our schedule remains the same!
TDM = EVENT

For this month, our Test Drive Meme will not be a separate log but will be the event itself. Those who are considering applying may comment and toplevel into the event log. This means the characters are suddenly appearing during the event period and technically existing for the rest of the month. The event is forward dated to October 25, but you can handwave your characters appearing a day or two beforehand if it would help you. However, guest characters can only be active within the event log. They are still free to use the Dream Board for additional prompts and can do timey-wimey things to incorporate the rest of October in their threads, but non-game characters can only be threading within the event log.
Even if a character is not applied for, random disappearances already happen and can be timed with the end of the month, so while characters might feel a little sad their friend didn't stay longer, it won't be too jarring. Players in game are also free to retcon a character's appearance if it's feasible and better for them.
It's a little similar to a fourth wall, and like all TDMs anyone is free to participate. However, we would prefer it if only those who are seriously considering applying to participate.
We will have instructions where those who are TDM participants must have TDM in their subject lines. We'll have a directory of some kind for the TDM threads as well.

If anyone was swept because they missed AC, you can reapply in the next cycle. Just fair warning, we will notice if this happens more than once and we may not allow immediate reapplication the next time.
This puts our player population to 67/75, which means our new player reserve/apps slots are at a maximum of 8.
WORLD UPDATES

Be it new NPCs, creatures, places, or some other discovery or creation, the world of Songerein continues to grow! So here are a few things as a result of the Dream Board and other submissions:
Beastiary:
- Anemo Crystalfly. A small fragile looking butterfly that looks to be made out of anemo (wind) energy. Its body is a small crystal shape much like a fluttering jewel. Their wings are delicate and vanish if they are touched leaving the crystalfly unable to fly again until they naturally form again. Their cores seem to hold a slight tingle of magic if held. They tend to flock and play around the At Day's End bar and winery.
- Jack Bros. With the season of spooks right around the corner and winter not far beyond, it's the perfect time of year for these... cute but also weirdly pervasive creatures to show up in Reverein! They're not particularly strong or threatening, but they do have a little magic at their disposal- Jack Frost, as you can imagine, wielding Ice, and Pyro Jack fire. Some rarer varieties like Black Frost, King Frost, or the dreaded Jack Ripper might display a greater degree of power and outright malevolence- but for the most part the weaker varieties are tricksters, whether it's Pyro Jack leading travelers astray on foggy nights, or Jack Frost playing mostly-innocent pranks. Mostly. They also make for very desirable plush toys.
Places:
- The Wild Harvest serves various western and eastern style earth-based street food dishes. A special menu is rotated every month.
Wild Harvest's specials for the month are:- Reverein’s Grand Slam: A legendary meat bowl from Japan that is a carnivore’s dream come true. It has been recreated here using nine different types of meat from which customers may pick and choose, depending on whatever is available: beef, pork, chicken, mutton, duck, venison, boar, bear, and rabbit. Topped with egg and a variety of herbs and spices added to a customer’s taste. A dish inspired the Meat Bowl, suggested by Beat.
- Evening Harvest: A plum cider based drink that is both sweet and tart with an almost refreshing feeling. The touch of apple and cinnamon warms you from the inside out. Garnished with a cinnamon stick, and a floating of housemade sparkling purple plum syrup, this drink is something almost comforting for those with fond memories of mulled ciders
- Candied Bacon: Thick cut strips of bacon coated in brown sugar and maple syrup, with just a hint of cinnamon. Served skewered on a stick for easy eating.
- Reaper’s Toll: Warm, freshly-baked chocolate chip cookies topped with white frosting to emulate the likeless of a certain someone. Firm on the outside, with a satisfying crunch that crumbles as you bite into the soft middle. Melts in your mouth to perfection!
- Assorted Candy Goody Bags: A selection of different flavor candies from hard candy to gummy types. Small goodie bags have been placed for people to freely fill them with the sweet treats. One bag per customer.
- Reverein’s Grand Slam: A legendary meat bowl from Japan that is a carnivore’s dream come true.
The soft glow of berries hanging from vines along the Harvest's ceilings remain, but with a bit of seasonal spirit more candles -housed in hanging lanterns or set safely out of the way- pumpkins have made their way inside. Some are carved and peer out with a friendly glow from their faces, others have what look like little scenes; all have a pleasant and warm scent reminiscent of fresh pumpkin pie drifting from them.
A few flowers of oranges, reds, and golds have been put on display inside and out as well, a few blankets here and there for those coming in from a particularly chilly air and need that extra help of warming up.
What others may notice are some rather curious and friendly cats, each of them with a red maple leaf as their tail. A few botanicats seem to have settled on making parts of the Wild Harvest their home now, and may visit patrons purring for a little attention- and wanting a bit of what food they may have served to them, of course.
Other:
- Alphen looked into charged crystals and experimented on them with various dreamotion effects. He's still searching for more information on power limiters.
- Link went with Alphen to the wildlands to find monster materials. Alphen might have been looking for smithy stuff, but Link is planning to use the monster parts to try making elixirs like he does at home.
- Eustace will be involved in a few things aside from wedding planning: thinking about converting the Corgi tree to a refuge/shelter for stray/injured dogs/animals; furthering research into nightmare energy and when individuals turn noctaere; joining in research efforts in figuring out ways how to either stay in the world permanently, or at least be able to leave by their own choice rather than random.
- As of the Imbalance event, Akechi has awakened to his first Songerein Persona, Captain Nemo. It's weak now, but he can access Dreamotion relatively easily for the first time, and may actually start being at least a little less of a shit.
EVENT REWARDS

This is a double whammy because…we…may have forgotten to list out the rewards for the Oz event /cough. So here we are:
- Regain Bauble (x3). Within the first week of the month, everyone will find three special little baubles next to their pillow with a note that reads, "Thanks for the helping! Throw this into the Wishing Well to receive a special item from home. Just imagine the item and it will appear. (watch out for the glitter) Can also be used at the Observatory or gifted to others!" As briefly described, this bauble is basically the game's "regain token." With this item, characters can throw it into the Wishing Well and receive the item they think about. All regains are manifestations of the item rather than the original and are affected by the game's limitations so nerfs may need to be applied. All regain submissions may be posted to the Regain Wishing Well entry.
Everyone is receiving three: 1 for the Oz event, and 2 for helping with the dragons. - Location: Porcelain Town. The name is a bit of a misnomer as it's really just a store in the southern Markets. Made completely out of porcelain and run by individuals also made of porcelain, their main product is—radishes. No, it's porcelain. From fine dinner plates to vases to figurines to other decorative items. And eventually they wish to be able to install porcelain sinks and other fixtures. They also have lunchpail trees growing just behind the store that those needing a quick snack are free to take. Just be careful around the store—things are very fragile. Fortunately if any of the porcelain residents break, they can be repaired with dreamotion.
- Location(?): Yellow Brick Road. All major main streets through the Markets are now made of yellow bricks. Sometimes it can get real shiny, other times a bit more dull. The bricks cannot be pried off. Good thing this didn't appear until after the dragons, eh?
- Location: Red Poppy Field. Somewhere out in the fields between the Old Cliffs and the Outer Range is a small field of red poppies. They have similar effects to the one found in Oz, which is if anyone goes into it, they will be susceptible to the sleep pollen. Fortunately, it can be countered via external resources to keep oneself awake; dreamotion will also be effective. Should someone happen to fall asleep, better get to dreamwalking and get help. Right now the poppy field is otherwise harmless so there's no need to destroy it. In fact those flowers could be useful… Or become a threat later who knows.
- Item(?): Hot Air Balloons. As introduced during the Dragons event, the hot air balloons from Oz have arrived and five (5) will stick around to be used both for entertainment and limited mode of transportation. The balloons can only go as far as the Old Cliffs before they need to turn back around or risk losing fuel and being stranded. Some flying monkeys will be the pilots, but it's possible for someone to learn how to fly on their own.
As for the rewards from the dragon event, it's a little different so this might read more like an "update":
- Unlocked: Positive Relationship with Dragons. Although there were a few hostile fights, everyone had valid reasons for acting the way they did—dragons wanting to regain their stolen belongings and lost eggs; the local residents trying to protect their home from this seemingly unprovoked attack. Although the beginning was rough, by the end of it understanding pushed through and the dragons were able to retrieve their missing goods. As a result, there is now a chance for there being an open and positive relationship with the dragons. They've all returned to their floating mountain and it's drifted back to their original skies over the Outer Range mountains, but there will be a chance to establish a more concrete connection with them. For the record, this is our tally from the submitted the activity:
Returned dragon eggs/hatchlings: 33 eggs/hatchlings
Returned treasure: 12 people helped
Fought dragons (negatively): ~5 people
Resolved disputes with dragons (positive): ~16 people
Donated leprechauns: ~7
Became a dragon minion: 3 people
Number of dragonnapped: ~7
(some were unclear so the number might be a little more) - Unlocked: Hot Spring Access. Good work everyone! Because of this new relationship, the dragons will allow everyone in town access to their special hot springs. However, since they need to go through all their lost treasure, reunite parents with their lost eggs/hatchlings, and deal with the caught leprechauns, it will take until November before it can actually be open. They have to get ready for new visitors, too, so they want to make sure everything will be ready to go. Having someone to help coordinate and be a spokesperson would be good here…
- Wanted: Leprechauns. The dragons were able to get some revenge on the leprechauns responsible for all this, but some still remain at large, including the ringleader. It'll be difficult to track them down for now, but efforts and requests to capture the greedy bastards will also help bolster relationships with the dragons. To note, there are different types of leprechauns, and the ones the dragons are interested in are the ones who stole their gold. The leprechauns who are honest workers such as the shoesmiths are excluded.
- Temporarily Closed: Bank of Leprechaun. Unfortunately, because of what happened the bank is temporarily closed. Fortunately anyone who used the bank will still be able to retrieve their belongings. The dragons are greedy by nature, but they weren't going to do the same as the leprechauns and still what's not theirs. The bank will reopen again in the future and under new management. This does mean gold coin currency is no longer being distributed so whatever is out there is all there is at the moment and bartering will once again be the primary means of exchange.
- Future Access: Gondowlas. The owl gondolas that came in to help transport the knights to save those who had been dragonnapped will have returned to whence they came. However, before leaving the owls wish everyone good luck, farewells, and hope to meet everyone again soon. Like the dragon island, there will be an opportunity to meet with the owls again.
Phew! This turned into a partial post-event update, but look at all those future delicious fun paths we'll be exploring in the upcoming months!
HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL

Warning: I kind of……got overzealous and basically wrote out the event so here you go guys, most of the details two weeks in advance!! For those interested in TDMing, you can also use this to prepare. If you want to skip the narrative, just scroll past the blockquote to get to the details of the event. Reminder that OOCly the log will be posted on the 15th and forward dated to the 25th.
On the evening of October 25th just as the sun is setting, the town is going to witness something very………strange happen right outside of town. On the southern side, just beyond the Dream Observatory, the ground will suddenly split open and black smoke will rise from the newly formed fissure. This will undoubtedly cause immediate panic, but just as people arrive to see what the hell is going on the following sequence of events will occur:
Large pumpkins bounce out from the fissure and land along the edges, forming a large ring of about 100,000 square feet (about 2 acres). Once the wall of pumpkins finishes forming within seconds, they all rotate to reveal various goofy jack-o-lantern faces, their mouths laughing and making silly faces at the onlookers. They are about five feet high so everyone can witness the next stages, and should anyone try to cross over, including via flying, they will be repelled by pumpkin gunk. No harm done, but it's very sticky and forceful enough to knock anyone back to the "spectating" range.
Various pylons made of various materials such as rotten wood, skeletal bones, fraying ropes, and rusted metal shoot up and start erecting all different kinds of structures: houses, towers, buildings, booths, what looks to be a circus tent…? Theme park rides appear amongst the magical construction that is happening in mere minutes. Roller coasters, free falls, bumper cars, carousel, spinning cups, go karts, haunted houses, house of mirrors—everything that one could imagine a local carnival to have can be seen.
Once everything is complete, just as the sun has completely set and darkness falls, there is a brief moment of silence before the lights and music erupt from the carnival. Ghastly cheers, voices, screams, and other sounds can be heard from within the carnival as the rides come to life and those who are able can see movement from within the newly formed carnival grounds. But can they really be called…people?
At this point, a few of the pumpkins suddenly roll out towards the town, grinding themselves down in the process to create a "cobbled" road made of broken pumpkin rind that connects the town to the newly formed carnival park.
A figure steps out, his scythe swirling in his hands in a dramatic fashion before he throws it high in the air. Purple flames erupt from the weapon as it seems to spin for an unnaturally long time, the flames and smoke forming the image of a skull that becomes animated and laughs, its shrill sound echoing over the area before the scythe falls, slicing it in half to disperse the image and caught by the man. With a flourish of his large hat, he calls out in a loud, clear voice that seems to boom through the air so that everyone far and wide can hear:
"Greetings, precious dreamers of Songerein! I am known as 'The Master,' and we of the Nightmare Troupe present to you a gift of Halloween—a special carnival of your dreams…and nightmares."
A fanged grin flashes before them all before he spins his scythe again, sparks erupting to fly skyward and explode into fireworks that spell "WELCOME".
"Welcome to our Halloween Carnival! Anyone is free to visit and enjoy our performances and rides. We promise, death is…unlikely, but it's not as if you can die…can you?"
Another wicked grin before laughter erupts from the pumpkin wall behind him soon followed by other voices as other ghastly, gruesome, and some silly figures appear and float from beyond the wall. Ghosts, ghouls, wraiths, mummies, monsters, clowns—they all wave and laugh. Although their appearances will cause a fright, they appear friendly…
"Fear not, we are forbidden from crossing any further than this."
The Master waves a hand and one of the ghouls flies past the pumpkin wall—or attempts to. The moment it does, the pumpkins swerve around to splatter them with pumpkin innards, forcing it back with a laugh.
"We have our own limitations…but that's fine by us. We are here to entertain and we wish those who are brave enough will come join us. Who knows…you may find something that will help you with your little Story Eater problem."
With another cheshire grin, there is a sudden explosive blast of smoke and screaming laughter before the Master disappears.
Did I just write a narrative in the mod notes—I did so I can check that off the actual log— BUT THERE YOU GO WE HAVE A HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL and it is being very mysterious, spooky, and very suspicious. As mentioned in the notes, the OOC date and the IC date are the same, so the carnival will arrive on October 15th in game. Because it is set outside of town, going into it is completely optional and it will exist until the end of October. Now, aside from it having the standard carnival attractions just with a creepy, dangerous, and spooky flair (the food is questionable—then again that's true for non-spooky carnivals), there is a reason why this carnival is here. So here's the real "event" portion of this as well as other details:
- Halloween Costumes. Whenever anyone enters the carnival, there is a high chance they will automatically be "changed" in some way to fit the atmosphere of the carnival. Instead of just wearing a vampire costume, the character will actually turn into one. Of course, players are free to adjust how much of a transformation the character experiences. This is only a cosmetic and ability change—no matter what they change into, they won't have any personality changes. If a personality change to fit the change is something the player wants, there will be ways to make that happen. As mentioned this is a "high chance," which means the whole costume change is optional. Since we just had costumes with the Faire, it would be understandable if some folks have "costume fatigue," so we're not going to force anyone into this mechanic. On the flip side, if there are players who are ready to throw their character into as many different "costume changes" as possible, they can do so. It's whatever you want, so just have fun and do what's most comfortable!
- Okay but this is sketch—how are characters going to willingly go? For those who are reasonably suspicious, there will be three key figures to help vouch for the carnival's (general) safety: the tapirs, Baba Yaga, and Santa Claus. They will also stick around to keep watch, but they won't always be visibly around. The tapirs and Santa Claus the characters have met before, however Baba Yaga will be a newer face despite her having existed since last Halloween. She was the one who provided the recipe for the anti-Eraser potions and other assistance in that event despite being under initial suspicion. Still, some may be wary and to help players who'd like to shove their characters who would otherwise avoid it, the sound of the music that occasionally drifts through the town has a Pied Piper effect that will attract anyone to the carnival, almost like a hypnotic trance. Next thing they know, boom they're in the carnival. Of course they can try to immediately exit, but overzealous staff will try to keep them in. Eventually, the rest of the locals both in town and the fae and other creatures in Songerein will venture into the carnival.
- Can characters talk to any of these NPCs? Technically, yes to the tapirs, Baba Yaga, Santa Claus, and the Master. However, we're not doing any full NPCs threads, so if you do have questions, drop them in the designated subthread we can drop general answers. We do prefer if questions are focused on the event, but if there's something about the game environment that characters have wanted to know, this is a good opportunity to drop them in!
- Is the carnival safe?? This is so sus— Yes! …Mostly! It's a Halloween Carnival run by a troupe with the word "Nightmare" in their name, so there will of course be attractions that will inflict more fear than a normal carnival would. There will also be plenty of creepy individuals and some might get a little hostile—not everyone that's a part of the carnival is happy to be there. But outside of designated areas, the carnival is safe, so for those who just want to experience lighthearted fun, that is available.
- So what's this about the Story Eater? The true purpose of this carnival as mentioned by the Master and explained by our three vouchers is to create an item that will help seal off the Story Eater once and for all (and let us move on—). Once the necessary "ingredients" are collected, we can start the next step in actually confronting the Story Eater and close this chapter of the game.
- Scavenger Hunt. This means there's a scavenger hunt element at play! Of course, with a place run like a circus, nothing is straightforward and only clues are given. Fortunately for all of us, they are fairly simple and straightforward and each clue is tied to a specific area.
#1. Haunted Dollhouse.
There is a special building called the Haunted Dollhouse. It's similar to a haunted house, however this attraction is filled with moving porcelain dolls that will try to scare and chase those who enter (it's quite likely some members of the newly added Porcelain Town have volunteered to help). Sometimes, those who enter are cursed into a doll and are now vulnerable. They are also not always able to move on their own will. This is not great as sometimes the dolls kind of…malfunction and will actually become aggressive. The weapons they wield are also not props, so that's a problem. However, they are small and can only inflict minor wounds and can be easily taken out.
The main clue here is "Villains!' I shrieked. 'Dissemble no more! I admit the deed! Tear up the planks! Here, here! It is the beating of his hideous heart!" To help both those who have turned into dolls as well as get the clue, everyone has to find the right place where some candied hearts are hidden. Fortunately the "blood trail" (it's raspberry syrup) will help lead them to the right place.
#2. Abandoned House.
A little away from the main attractions there is a run down house surrounded by trees…and a lot of ravens. A raven with red eyes will guide those who dare or wish to face a lost loved one to the house. Inside it's just filled with faceless busts and empty paintings, but soon they are filled with the images of those lost ones. It could be a person, pet, thing, but they are there, just staring. Only the eyes and mouths move, and what the person hears are their insecurities and fears related to how they lost whatever they see. Anyone else will either see the original blanks or their own personalized images.
The main clue is "And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting // On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door // Back into the chamber turning, all my soul within me burning // Shall be lifted – nevermore". To get out of this house, they have to first look for the bust that has the red eyed raven on it. This will be tricky as there will be many ravens with different colored eyes. Once they do, there will be a small picture frame. They must manifest one or more of the images they are seeing and capture it into the frame. This is simply done by waving it like a net, but the manifestation can move around. This can be as easy or difficult as a player wants, and how affected the character is from what they see and hear can also be a factor. The more affected they are, the easier it is to manifest but difficult to capture. The less affected, it will be more difficult to manifest as they have to tap into that raw fear, but will be easier to capture.
#3. Hay Bale Maze.
Just outside of the circus tent is a large hay bale maze with the hay…looking as if it's seen much better days. It's filled with spooks that like to jump scare maze goers or bodiless limbs that reach out to grab, but aside from that it's harmless. Except for one particular figure.
The main clue is "Who dares?" he demanded hoarsely of the courtiers who stood near him --"who dares insult us with this blasphemous mockery? Seize him and unmask him --that we may know whom we have to hang at sunrise, from the battlements!" There is a red clad figure wearing a skull mask. He will randomly bust through the hay walls and engage maze goers into a fight. Those who are incapable will flee in terror while the figure will chase, which will be a pretty good clue as to where he is. Once engaged, any weapon and dreamotion can be used at their disposal and the challenge is to just simply best him in a fight (not to the death). Striking the figure even once will earn a victory and the skull mask will be granted.
#4. Musical Catacombs.
For a bit more lighthearted fun, there is an underground catacombs that is filled with tombs. Some of them have actual skeletons and ghosts sleeping in them, but they won't harm anyone if bothered. Just be a bit cranky, maybe throw a bone. At someone's head. Down here it's quite lively, filled with music, dancing, and a lot of alcohol. Minors will only get sparkling juice.
The main clue is "'Ha! ha! ha! — he! he! he! — a very good joke, indeed — an excellent jest. We will have many a rich laugh about it at the palazzo — he! he! he! — over our wine — he! he! he!' // 'The Amontillado!' I said." One of the games is a dancing game where the tombs will light up a certain color and participants have to properly hit the correct corresponding floor panel (basically a music rhythm/DDR themed game). Should they make a perfect score, one of the tombs will open and have a crusty wine bottle in it.
If you've noticed a theme—yes you are correct, we have Edgar Allen Poe referenced here. All items can be gathered multiple times and the more of them the better. Once all items are collected, it will be used on October 31st to create the final product. That will be revealed in our November mod notes as well as what the next step will be.
As for the log, the format will be the usual two parts, with one part focused on general carnival things (rides, foods, etc) and the second part will have the four prompts above. Do not be surprised if I just copy/paste all that verbatim. Like for the Dragons event, during Activity Check we'll request those who participate in the Scavenger Hunt to note their findings! Characters don't have to individually find all four, they can just focus on one or two. But we do need at least one of each, so feel free to do a little coordinating if you want!
DREAM BOARD

How the Dream Board works:
- This is all optional, the quests are just extra content for players and while they can sometimes relate to upcoming or current events, they're just kind of "filler" stuff. Some will be set out in Songerein proper while others may involve dreams.
- The Dream Board can be found at the Plaza and quests will automatically appear on it like a bulletin board. Some will also appear in the journals. Anyone can accept them and rewards automatically generated upon completion of the task. It's a dream world, it's full of magic, it just knows.
- Quests can be done as many times as a character would do them and rewards will be delivered to the character upon completion.
- If you have any questions, comment to the designated subthread.
1001 | Becoming The Mask. Even though festivities don’t begin in earnest until later in the month, the festive spirit has gripped the town. Many are celebrating early, with small pop-up costume parties and lots of candy being handed out. About that candy… it seems that the cursed candy from last year’s Halloween dreamscape has made it into Songerein proper and gotten mixed in with the regular stuff. If you eat the candy while in costume, you may begin to feel some light urges to become like whatever you’re dressed as. These urges are mild and largely harmless, and they’ll go away on their own in a few hours. | Embarrassment, probably. But also partying and free candy. |
1002 | Pumpkin Spice Poachers. Did you know that pumpkin spice comes from tiny spice pumpkins that come out of hiding in the fall? Well, they do. And poachers have been hunting too many of them down and draining them of all their spice, leaving them ghostly white or, in extreme cases, husks of their former selves. They need to be stopped! Pumpkin spice needs to be harvested responsibly! | A sustainable pumpkin spice economy. |
1003 | The Doctor is In(?). In response to demand for therapeutic services in Reverein, a new office has opened in the Market area. When you enter, you are greeted to a large couch, a sign that says “Quiet Please: Therapy in Progress,” and a doll dressed like a counselor that is ready to help with your troubles. She doesn’t have a degree, but she’s a great listener. | Therapy! Kinda. |
1004 | At the Huskin’ Bee. In one of the town pumpkin patches, the pumpkins seem to be coming alive and gaining scarecrow bodies somehow. They’re holding a miniature harvest festival, complete with food, music, and dancing with ribbons around a giant pumpkin. They’re wary of outsiders, but may allow you to join them with some convincing. (Some investigation will reveal that the pumpkins aren’t alive; the harvest festival goers are all | Favor of the fae if you manage to make a good impression. Maybe a pumpkin if you ask nicely. |
1005 | Shinies. There’s been an uptick in corvids around town lately, ravens and crows especially. They’re attracted by any leftover baubles still lying around from the Dream Faire and are eager to take the trinkets for themselves. Residents can either chase them off and try to collect the jewels for their own purposes (keeping them, returning them to the dragons, etc.), or they can assist the birds in accumulating as many shinies as their little hearts please. | Depending on what you do, you can either gain bird friends or bird enemies. |
1006 | Haunted Sheets. Anything made of fabric like blankets, bedsheets, towels, even tissue paper are suddenly flying around as if pretending to be ghosts! First, please catch them, especially loose laundry!! Then figure out what's causing this and stop it! (Note: Unfortunately for the quest giver, this is a mixed result of dreamotion, pixies, and actual spirits floating around having fun and making pranks. If it's a spirit, it will look more like a wisp and just giggle and fly away—though where it came from who knows...) | Free sheets and regain any lost laundry; may receive some detergent |
1007 | Devil in the Wildlands. There are rumors of a monster stalking the deep woods of the Wildlands. Those who have seen it describe it as a part-goat, part-bat devil that kills animals (including people) for food and for sport. Its origins are unclear - some say that it’s the cursed thirteenth child of an old fae family. Regardless, it needs to be found and stopped before it ventures too close to town. | The safety and appreciation of those who live on the outskirts. |

"Are you saying to use both nightmare and dreamotion energy...? I didn't know we could do that..."

"Didn't you do so on the moon? If not you, others had, and there are those here now that are more...attuned to nightmare.
After all, nightmare energy is just a type of dreamotion energy. And like any other energy, it can be destructive or useful. Fire can burn everything in its path, but it can also provide warmth. Wind could be a gentle breeze one moment and a monstrous tornado the next."
The Master flexes his fingers with a smile.
"It's all just a matter of control."
