A Quest for Permanent Residency in Songerein

SO WHO WANTS TO STAY IN SONGEREIN PERMANENTLY?

Probably not that many, but there may be a few who hold some interest. But before I do that, I gotta do the mod disclosure:

Permanent residency is not that common in DWRP games for practical reasons—if a game is still ongoing and a player drops but the character remains, is that character now banned from being reapped? Or will they become an AU'ed NPC version that just exists in the background? EXCELLENT QUESTIONS that do affect the end result of this.

Which is why this is a quest that will span over several months and while the details are still being hashed out, I have a pretty good idea of what the IC and OOC end requirements will be. It won't be an easy "joined last month, now I want to be a permanent resident" deal—actual approval and various different proofs and show of long term commitment will be required whenever this becomes live, which could be closer to the end of 2023. By then I will have also decided on how "permanent characters" will be handled. I can at least say that whenever Song does reach "endgame," characters will have a guaranteed option to stay in the world, so this won't go against whatever plans on that front (and to be clear we're not near endgame, I'm just throwing that out there for transparency).

Of course, failure is an option, but it would be nice to give characters a happy ending they wish for.

Although this entry is for sign-ups, players are welcome to add suggestions, questions, and concerns, too.

So as mentioned in Eustace's journal post, he's wondering if there are any others who would like to be involved. And that leads to me asking who those players are! As mentioned in the OOC note, I'll use other characters and players to help develop the actual method, be it needing to fulfill a certain objective or finding a special, magical object. This way the end result will feel more organic and really feel like something the characters worked hard towards.

No real restrictions on who sign up, though I would prefer those who hold legitimate interest and plan to stay in the game long term for this endeavor to comment. Everyone else can of course help them without any need to sign-up! I may also think of ways for general help, too. Those who have an actual stake in this may also receive more worthwhile clues, as one component to this will be strong desires to stay, so that will be incorporated in this.

Late edit: Just a quick note that there's no real hard "deadline" for sign-ups. While I would prefer to have a list of definite volunteers by the end of the month, anyone can join in even after things have started. Whether or not I can fit a special clue or something for late participants is not guaranteed, but I'll try!

Reason for Joining: Her homeworld is dying and is absolute garbage, and nobody she loves is left there. She'll have some guilt since she's supposed to be taking care of Yonah, but she really wants to find a way to stay here as long as possible for both herself and others.
Suggestions: Kainé's initial approach will be a lot of "WHO DO WE HAVE TO KILL" but she's going to be extremely invested in seeing this through to success so she'll come up with something better as we go.

Reason for Joining: His world already kicked him out for being a mistake and he has no friends or family there. Also he's stuck as the villain and doesn't like it. This place actually has opportunities for him; one of his dreams already happened. Plus if he knows he's also still in Elmore trying to stop the end of the show he won't have any guilt over leaving people to the same fate he was supposed to have.
Suggestions: He'll probably still be trying to approach things from a supervillain perspective because he's coming off of years of that being his only option. So he may have some pretty ridiculous plans depending on what's involved.

Character: Yuri Hyuga
Reason for Joining: He doesn't have a reason to stay here, but he understand the pain of losing something important like a place like this, and no one should go through that.
Suggestions: Yuri punch things. He punch good. He can also turn into monsters, but how that would help is anyone's guess! He also has something connected to his own soul that he can visit in his sleep, but making deals with things that live there is a bad time... so perhaps some insight into things that involve souls— and what not to do with them (like bringing someone back from the dead)— could be had?

Reason for Joining: As a friend and crewmember, Lyria wants to do anything she can to make sure that Eustace and Tifa have a happy and long life together!
Suggestions: She can absolutely fight when necessary, but hunting down and looking for certain clues would probably be the biggest part she could be involved in. She could also be a great source for bookkeeping and making sure all their progress would be logged.

Reason for Joining: He betrayed a princess and almost killed the queen, sooo he's a little bit 'I'm sort of fucked back home aren't I.' So, he might as well try and build something here, even if he won't have the chance to become king in this world. It's probably still better than whatever punishment he has to face back in the Southern Isles.
Suggestions: Hans will most likely not betray everyone. Okay, he's pretty well-rounded when it comes to combat and negotiation, and he's pretty interested in seeing this through, so he'll do what's needed. Hans can get along with most people and can work well in a team. His dreamotion specialty is ice magic if that helps.

Reason for Joining: Nuadha's world is quite literally cobbled together from pieces of other worlds at the moment! So he's very familiar with the concept and practice of bringing things from one world into another and then making them a part of the other world. Also, as far as he's concerned, he's dead in his world and (at his current canon point) plans to remain that way, so it's not like he can go back home to live out his life there-- or so he thinks. (Nobody tell him how canon actually ends, shh)
Suggestions: The way it works in his world, people (and continents) are exoflected into Tir Na Nog-- copied, in other words, so that the copies are then encoded as being a part of Tir Na Nog rather than a part of their original world. His suggestion will be if there's a way to use dreamotion to alter the process of exoflection so rather than making an actual physical copy of the person who wants to stay, it just alters their anima signature or something to that effect.

Reason for Joining: Zelda is genuinely happy in Song in a way she never was in her home world. Privately, she wants to stay here and never go home. However, she also feels obligated to go home because her real self is performing a very important duty.
Suggestions: Zelda has had this long-running theory that all of the dreamwalkers' bodies are made purely from dreamotion and that this could somehow be used to stay in the dreamworld. She'd also consider if it's possible to sever the connection between someone's dream self and real self without adversely effecting either. She'd want to know if it's possible for this version of herself to say in Song while her real self stays in Hyrule and does her duty and all that.
Questions: Zelda is ICly conflicted on whether she would want to stay or not. Can I still participate, not knowing what she's ultimately going to decide? Can a character ICly opt out after they've already been participating in this quest?

Yes of course!! ICly Eustace wouldn't hold anything against anyone who decide to change their mind—it's a big decision, after all, with currently no certainty if whatever they try will work. He also understands where Zelda and anyone like her is coming from, so definitely not an issue.

Reason for Joining: Wanting to help out those who have a reason to stay behind, no matter what that reason might be.
Suggestions: Beat's not much of a thinker but if you need someone to go on some kind of fetch quest or Eustace needs a warm body to help with the more physical tasks that this might entail, Beat's ya boy.
Questions: Will there be bears involved? Laena, there better be bears.

Reason for Joining: Link doesn't have a particular want or need to stay in Song permanently; indeed, there are lots more reasons for him to want to leave. But he's all about the sidequests and sating his own curiosity, and that's what would get him involved.
Suggestions: Link wonders whether it's truly necessary to sever this tether connection, or if it's possible to gain control of it, allowing someone to come and go at their own will. This is the method he would end up exploring with most interest.

Character: Both Beatrix and Nier would be inclined to assist.
Reason for Joining: Both have similar reasons for joining. Beatrix just wants to help others like Eustace and Tifa to stay together. She has personal reasons for wanting to stay as well, but isn't inclined to share them with anyone other than Eustace (which she already has). Nier is resigned to his own fate, but would like to assist for the sake of others.
Suggestions: You've already heard my thoughts on this, but I'll bring you more as I think of them.

Character: Both Anya and Isabela
Reason for Joining: While Anya has no concrete reason to stay in Songerein permanently (she still has a guy and a grandmother waiting for her in Paris), Anya wants to help out anyone who wishes to stay in there as much as she could. Isabela doesn’t have any major plans to stay but she too wants to help out while she is currently soulmates with a certain love chef via the Paopu Fruit. (Isa doesn’t know it just yet.)
Suggestions: Anya will happily to participate in finding clues and fighting while Isa could help in gathering plants for any spells, rituals, or potions needed.
Questions: Is it possible for someone who didn’t initially planned on living in the world for good to change their mind to staying permanently during the quest?
