NOCTAERE TRAHEARNE PLOT
Hello hello Songerein! Trahearne's one year anniversary for his stay in this dream realm approaches...as does his transformation into noctaere-dom! This has been quietly brewing in the background for a while now, and this is what happens when you let it stew instead of going to therapy.
In summary, there will be an open portion of the event where players are free to create nightmare minibosses of their characters and have their friends come and save them, and a closed portion where Trahearne's CR must talk him down to free him from nightmare. If you've been itching for combat, or have been wanting to play with a noctaere version of your character but haven't had a good excuse yet, here's your chance!
The log will be going up on March 4th. Some details in the cuts below!
THE OPEN PORTION OF THE EVENT.
This part the event is open to everyone. You do not need to have CR with Trahearne to participate. Go wild!
This entire event will be taking place in the jungle in the wildlands. With Trahearne serving as the core/source, thorned vines have spread across the entirety of the area, and they slowly spread beyond. These vines, while most are just obstructive, some actively hunt characters and creatures to capture them and put them in pods.
Creatures/characters stuck in pods will be put into a slumber and cloned as hostile, nightmare-ridden echoes of themselves. These clones generally try to protect the original inside the pod and act as mindless minibosses, but outside of that, their actions are mostly up to player discretion. There will be more details in the even post proper (I don't want to bog you down with info), but feel free to ask questions. These clones will be made of plants because this is a sylvari event, baby!!!
Characters can be saved from the pods, but their clones don't have to be killed first to be successfully saved--that just means no more clones can be created. Once freed from a pod, characters will feel lethargic and exhausted. Many will have had a direct empathetic connection to Trahearne during their time in the pod even if they don't have CR. Some will have a more detailed insight into what's bothering him (though this option is here for closer CR that don't want to/can't do the dreamscape, but I'm open to hashing things out on a case-by-case basis!).
Random jungle wildlife will be cloned as well, so you're welcome to play with that if you don't want to strictly PVP.
There will also be multiple ways to get characters into the jungle if you don't think your character will willingly go out in that direction, but you still want to put them in a pod. Sit tight--more details will be in the event post proper!
However, the vines and pods will not fully disappear and recede until Trahearne himself has been dealt with. Which leads us to...
THE CLOSED PORTION OF THE EVENT.
This part of the event is on a sign-up basis and is closed to characters who already have CR with Trahearne. I count CR as having threaded at least once, even if they did not exchange names.
Trahearne has been acting a little off the past couple of months as he tries to hold back nightmare from taking over him. When he feels he can't fight it anymore, he will tell Eustace and Phantom something is wrong and then promptly vanish.
He will have isolated himself in an impenetrable coccoon of vines in the heart of the jungle and is unreachable, not even with your super mega dreamotion-powered awesome video game moves. The vines are too thick and grow too fast. The only way to get to him is to dreamwalk.
The dreamscape will be literally littered with things that have been weighing on him, and it's up to the visitors to use dreamotion to clear it and talk him down afterwards.
This is a non-combat encounter, and there will be a lot of talking and introspection. I warn ahead of time that this may get emotionally heavy. I don't think there will be any specific content warnings but many of Trahearne's thoughts and speech will be depressive and pessimistic. I just want to give a heads up so you know what you're signing up for.
I'm limiting this to ten characters. There's no date cutoff but I'll be reaching out in the week before the post goes up. Sign ups in the comments below!
