GAME OFFICIALLY CLOSED

To close this out, here are some final messages from the mod team and think tank!

Leo: It has been an absolute blast helping come up and help along with events, prompts, creatures and more for this game. Watching others enjoy them and take some things and run- and it has been a delight working with the other people of the team over this time as well. All of the ideas bounced around, growing them into some wonderful things that had a piece of all of us, the fun of running away with jokes sometimes and turning them into solid ideas. Made this into a place that I loved and adored playing in as well.

Thank you, and all of you players as well! Wouldn't have been the same without y'all.

Mich: While I was only helping out for the little while, it’s been a pleasure to help out with writing the dreamboard and with some event brainstorming! This game has been a very special place to me for a long time, so getting a chance to help out for a little while was a big treat! These games have always been a place to call home for me and as much as I’m sad to see it finish up, I’m very happy it happened. I hope everyone enjoyed their time here! It’s been a blast and I hope that we all catch each other in the future!! See you later!!

Sheila: This game has held such a special place in my heart over the years, and I will cherish my time here, both as a player and as a helper mod. It's been so wonderful to see this game grow and change since the beginning, and I am grateful to everyone who helped shape and build the world. The game really would not have been the same without every single player who has come and gone through it. So thank you to you all, and hope to see you again soon!!

Mart: Well, it's been one hell of a ride, Song. This was the game that brought me out of RP retirement and, only six months later, out of mod retirement too. It became my home game and a small project on the side that I could look forward to when I needed a break from life. Working and playing with everyone has been an absolute blast and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

To everyone who was a part of Songerein, both past and present, thank you for being there for the journey. See you around and don't let your dreams be memes!

Like I said in the opening, this game wouldn't have gotten as far as it did without them, and I am very grateful for all the help and ideas they've helped bring to life in the game. And of course, we wouldn't have been able to come as far as we have without all the wonderful players who have come through, so another heartfelt thank you to all of you.

This may be the last of the game, but it certainly isn't the last of me! May we one day cross paths again…

DREAM NOTES #37: SEPTEMBER 1, 2024

Hello everyone! This is officially Songerein's third anniversary and our last official Dream Notes post. We will have one last farewell mod post to officially declare everything is closed, but that won't be until the end of the month.

I want to once again thank everyone who has come through the game, especially all my current and former mod and think tank helpers. Without their help (and enabling) Songerein wouldn't have existed at all so they will always remain near and dear to me, just like all my other mod teams in my previous and current games. The game itself is one that came at a difficult time in my life, and it helped me get through those times while reliving a lot of nostalgia from my previous games, so Songerein will always remain in a special place in my heart as a love letter of sorts to that past.

I know this isn't how we all expected the game to end, but I am still happy to have seen it last these past three years and reach a proper ending. As you will soon see, while the game may close, the world itself will continue to exist and characters will be able to see each other, perhaps go on adventures, explore that dream realm further, or just, well, live out their dreams.

We do have one final event that will go up on Friday, September 6 and everyone is welcome to tag it. Just a fun little callback to the first event when the game opened: a large feast thrown by the fae with a lot of the old silliness.

Now to explain what exactly is happening to everyone!

PLOT WITH ME: AUGUST 2024 Welcome to Songerein's Plot With Me Meme! It's an abbreviated version of the CR Meme where the main focus is figuring what you want to do for the month, such as listing out which quests you're interested, any personal plots you have in mind, and initial thoughts on the event. It's similar to a CR Meme, with just a little different focus on the form. You can refer to the Mod Announcement for plotting ideas for the month and beyond!

If you have multiple characters, make an individual toplevel for yourself with your player info and comment to it with each character separately.

OOC PLOTTING POST: State of the Realm for the Phenomenal Phoenix Phuck Up Player Plot

empyreancatastrophe: (we're in full happy territory!)
[personal profile] empyreancatastrophe
[community profile] songerein_ooc
Hey Songerein! It’s me again.

Here’s Part Two’s State of the Realm (which is really just a cute allusion to FF16 for providing updates, information, and sign-up sheets.)

(Please let me have this.)

Part One is complete, and Intermission is underway (see this top level in the Event to take a peek, read the relevant updates and/or epilogue, or join in!). Now let’s take a look at what’s in store for Part Two.

Because of the amount of explanation some parts need, I’ve broken everything down into small sections so you can jump to whatever interests you most!

PART TWO: July 26th to August 4th (new date, but it’s still flexible)

JOSHUA’S DREAMSCAPE

The dreamscape is located well outside of Nightmare City, where a massive dome of fire marks its boundaries. It’s far enough away that it won’t impact whatever is going on in the city proper. Once characters enter, they’ll find themselves in the Grand Duchy of Rosaria. The dreamscape is even bigger on the inside, as characters will notice the moment that they step in and are transported to a wholeass country. Thankfully, we’re operating on video game mechanics in that magically, it doesn’t take long to traverse the area. What would normally be at least a few hours’ walk will only take a few minutes (unless, of course, you want it to take hours. It’s a dream, do what you want!).

Rosaria is a coastal country with a few ports. Go deeper and you’ll find marshlands, ancient architecture, Phoenix Gate, and, in the capitol, Rosalith, Rosalith Castle. The weather is pleasant, except for some weird looking dark clouds surrounding the castle and Phoenix Gate. Golly gee I wonder what could be going on in those two places.

THE CRYSTALS
(this is the section to open up if you don’t care about fight threads and want to do the character introspection stuff and get some closure—or if you want to do something chaotic.)

He’s from a Final Fantasy game, crystals are going to be involved somehow. In this case, large clusters of crystals can be found throughout the landscape. Pairs of characters will find themselves drawn to particular clusters, depending on whatever weighs the most on their heart. Depending on the outcome of character introspection, these crystals will either be purified or contaminated. It is possible to contaminate a crystal on purpose or by accident. Characters who like to do evil stuff, this is your chance! The more contaminated crystals there are, the stronger Noctshua becomes. The more purified crystals, the weaker he becomes. I’ll be keeping tabs on these threads, so Joshua will be affected in real time. (e.g., A tells B “I love you!” as part of a crystal thread, the “I love you!” will echo through his mind and lower his buffs as well as temporarily distract him; corrupted crystals will do the opposite).

Look, I may be cringe, but I am free.

There are four types of crystals:

  • Power
    Focus: Ambition and influence.
Reflection: Characters see themselves offered unlimited power and must think together about what they would do and how it would impact them as people. They must confront who they would become with power, potentially leading to purification or corruption based on their self-reflection. (Remember the saying, “absolute power corrupts absolutely”? That applies here.)

  • Love
    Focus: Relationships (romantic or platonic).
Reflection: Characters explore their past and current relationships. Want to confess your love to someone? Now is the time to do it! This crystal always purifies regardless of the characters’ actions (so if someone denies that love confession, the crystal doesn’t care), thanks to the inherent positivity in love.

  • Fulfillment
    Focus: Personal desires and ambitions.
Reflection: Characters delve into their deepest desires and what they want most. If the character's desire is positive, the crystal purifies. If negative, it corrupts. There can be an overlap here with the Love crystal, but if you’re looking for a way to distinguish between the two, think of Fulfillment as “I would like love in the future” where Love would be “I need to tell this person how I feel about them now” (whether romantic or platonic).

  • Secrets
    Focus: Hidden truths and deceptions.
Reflection: Characters confront the secrets they keep from others. Depending on whether characters choose to reveal or conceal their secrets, the crystal can purify or corrupt. Notably, the secret will appear in the crystal as a (literal) reflection, but only the person holding the secret can see it.

This is a bit of a tweak from my original plan, but to make it easier for other players to jump in when the log goes up (it could be a last-minute decision, whatever you want!), registration to interact with the crystals is not mandatory. However, I still recommend that you sign up either in pairs (2), or groups of three (3). That way you’re guaranteed to have a buddy going into a thread. Again, to allow for flexibility, signing up is not mandatory. It's just encouraged.

Crystal Interaction Sign-Up Form

Slots: Unlimited

CALADRIUS AND ADARNA (stick your egis out reeeeal far)

The shortest section! Joshua will create two corrupted egis (smaller versions of an eikon that are formed from their essence) called Caladrius and Adarna.

Caladrius: heals, is more of a defensive bird, defeat/purification will reduce Joshua’s rolls by 3
Adarna: attacks, is more of an offensive bird, breathes fire and can turn people into stone, defeat/purification will reduce Joshua’s rolls by 3

Any fights with these two are completely player controlled. Feel free to have them act however you’d like.

I’ll have art for them by the time the log goes up.

PHOENIX GATE (KAIJU TIME)

You probably guessed it already, but this is where those who signed up for it be fighting Phoenix.

And yes, this means…

KAIJU BATTLES

What even is a kaiju?
A kaiju (literal translation from Japanese: “strange beast”) is a giant monster that is usually a representation of some force of nature, complete with divine-esque powers. Godzilla is the most iconic kaiju out there.

Wow, nerd. What does that have to do with fighting a dumb spicy chicken?
Phoenix is about 100ft/30m tall (we don’t have an official height but this is what I’m going with based on what we see in the game). He’s small compared to the other Eikons, but still too big for your standard human fight.

Not everyone can turn into giant monsters, you know.
And I wish we could!!! Imagine how cool it would be? But if your character doesn’t have their own kaiju form, no worries. We have options.

  • Come up with your own! Legally distinct Godzilla, anyone?

  • I can assign a Final Fantasy summon to have your character turn into.*

  • If your character has the ability to summon a giant monster of their own, they can use them instead

*for canon reasons, Garuda, Shiva, Titan, Ifrit, Bahamut, Ramuh, Odin, and Leviathan are out as assignments. However, if your character has the ability to summon a version of those creatures (from Final Fantasy or otherwise), they’re free to use them.

How do the fights work?
Please see the battle mechanics section at the end of the post.

How do we join in?
Please use the form below! Because I’m just one person who needs to eat, work, and sleep, the slots for Phoenix and our Final Boss are limited.

If you’re reading this and slots have already filled up, I highly encourage you to sign up anyway. I’ll have a waitlist on the log post that I’ll update consistently. As fight threads with Phoenix wrap up, I’ll create threads for characters from the waitlist in the order I receive your comments.

Please only sign up if you’re able to commit to threading out your portion of the Phoenix fight. If I don’t receive a starting comment from you within two days of putting up the log on the 26th, I’m moving onto whoever is next on the waitlist (you won’t lose your chance entirely, you’ll just be put onto the waitlist as well). For people on the waitlist, I will respond to your comment in this post to let you know if/when your turn comes up. The same two-day rule applies.

Obviously, things happen, and RL is always more important than RP, so if something comes up, just let me know and I’ll be more than happy to work something out with you. I promise it’s totally cool and not a big deal! All I ask for is communication.

ROSALITH CASTLE (Final Fantasy Boss Party)

”Yoohoo~”

It’s Joshua. Like. We all knew that, right? It wasn’t some big secret or anything. You’re fighting Noctaere Joshua. Lovingly called Noctshua.

Noctshua can be found chilling in the throne room in Rosalith Castle. Characters will have to come to him. If the giant storm clouds aren’t enough of a hint as to where he is, don’t worry, there will be a way for them to get there (Torgal).

Because of everyone’s efforts in Part One, an antidote for his condition has been developed in Nightmare City. Which means…

Congratulations, we’ve avoided regicide!

You can still try if you want to go for the Regicide Ending (Ending C). I won’t stop you. Other people might, though. Regardless, we’ve managed to unlock Ending B, and whether we unlock Ending A (the true ending) will depend on how Part Two goes!

What’s the deal with fighting this clown?
Anyone who’s squaring up against Noctshua will have the goal of delivering a dose of an antidote to him. At least two doses are necessary to completely cure him, but the more he receives, the better. You can use any of the 'attack' rounds to try to give him the antidote (whether or not it's successful depends how well you roll, but you can always retry), which will end your battle thread.

The noctaere that’s taken over won’t make it easy.

So how do we fight him?
Please see the battle mechanics section below.

However! There’s flexibility in confronting Noctshua in that you can forgo fighting him and try to win through the power of friendship/love/positivity/uwu.

Unlike with the Phoenix fight, I won’t be able to open up a rolling waitlist to fight Noctshua (blah blah, one person, need sleep). Instead, anyone who’s put on the waitlist will act as a sub-in should someone need to drop out of the thread. With that in mind, if you plan on signing up, please be ready to commit to the log. As usual, RL comes first, and you can always reach out if something comes up. (This is assuming the slots fill up, which will be a pleasant surprise if it winds up happening!)

BATTLE MECHANICS
(who wants to roll dice and do math??? Oh and I guess Cinematic Clashes, too)

How Dice Rolls Work in an Online Text-Based RP
It turns out there’s a lot of fine-tuning and balancing you have to do! I did my best to keep the rules simple but effective and efficient while making the experience feel like a video game. If any clarification is needed, I’m happy to provide it.

  • The battle mechanics are the same for both Phoenix and Noctshua.

  • We can roll in Discord (game chat or in private), put our results in the comment headers, or share our rolls through Plurk or PM. I’m flexible and ready to work with whatever you’re most comfortable.

  • Options for dice rolling include: Calculator.net, Roll a Die, or you can use Google’s built-in dice roller by… Googling dice roller.

  • All rolls will be based on the honor system. Seriously, I’m not about to leap down from your ceiling and watch you.

In case you’re worried about any cheesing on my end, full transparency: as much as I want to give everyone a challenge (and I will; see Joshua’s starting advantages), I also want Good to Prevail… and for my knuckleheads to get dunked on.

  • We’ll have a few comments before each fight to set things up. I’ll declare Battle Start when it’s time to fight fight fight.

Dice Rolls: Actions

  • Each player rolls a 20-sided die (d20)

  • The higher roll wins the round. The responding player writes their character either winning or losing that exchange, and then ‘retaliates’ with a new roll for the other player to counter against. (like playing volleyball or tennis)

  • If the rolls are tied, it’s a stalemate, and the receiving player will describe their half of the exchange appropriately. The retaliation roll continues as usual.

  • Action rolls can also be used to try and emotionally appeal to Noctshua instead of fighting him (in which case, I’ll call for a roll whenever it feels like there’s a ‘natural’ moment where he can be persuaded).

  • Other factors will come into play; this is just the basic idea

Dice Rolls: Damage

  • The player who gets the higher number with their Action Roll is the winner of that ‘round’.

  • Damage will be decided via either a 4-sided die (d4) for fights against Noctshua or a 10-sided die (d10) for fights against Phoenix.

  • The losing player rolls the d4 or d10 so they can write how their character is impacted.

  • Players will have advantages (outlined below) that you can add onto your Action and Damage Rolls. Everyone who’s sent me a conclusion in Part One or interacted with Joshua over the past year will have advantages they can add to their rolls. Basically, the more involved you’ve been, the stronger you’ll be against him/Phoenix.

  • Hit Points (HP)

    • Each player starts with a set amount of HP as described below:

      Noctshua:
Starts all of his battles with 40 HP.

Those fighting against him can start with a range between 20 to 30 HP depending on the character’s abilities. I leave that up to player discretion (seriously, it’s based on whatever you think feels right/how tense you want the fight to be; I’m cool with anything).

      Phoenix:

The Phoenix has 75 HP (because big). Anyone fighting against Phoenix will also have 75 HP (because also big).

    • Noctshua and Phoenix won’t have any damage advantages against other characters, so you don’t have to worry about adding anything to your damage rolls. I’m trying to make it as easy as possible for y’all…!

Examples of how a round can go (complete with images!)
(NOTE: all the extra numbers and such are assuming we're not rolling in private communication)

    [SUCCESSFUL ATTACK]

    [UNSUCCESSFUL ATTACK]

    Cinematic Clashes

    • Initiating a Cinematic Clash

    • A player can initiate a Cinematic Clash at any point during their turn.

    • Each player can use up to 2 combined instances of a Cinematic Evasion or a Cinematic Strike per battle.

    • Cinematic Evasion and Cinematic Strike
    • Cinematic Evasion: Allows a player to avoid an attack entirely if they win the Cinematic Clash. A successful Cinematic Evasion will also heal the player 5 HP.

    • Cinematic Strike: Allows a player to deal double damage if they win the Cinematic Clash.

    • Cinematic Clash Process
    • Declaration: The initiating player declares they are starting a Cinematic Clash and whether it’s an Evasion or a Strike.

    • Rolls: The rolls are pretty much the same as normal, except the d20 is rolled 5 times. The defending player does the same.

    • Results: The player who wins at least 3 out of the 5 rolls wins the Cinematic Clash and the loser writes the impact as usual.

    • In the event of a tie, we keep going until there is no more tie.

    • Outcomes of a Cinematic Clash
    • Cinematic Evasion: If the initiating player wins, they evade the next attack entirely and heal 5 HP. If they lose, the normal turn sequence continues.

    • Cinematic Strike:If the initiating player wins, their attack deals double damage. If they lose, the normal turn sequence continues.

    • In other words, there’s no penalty for an unsuccessful Cinematic Clash outside of ‘wasting’ one of your two chances.

    • Examples of a Successful and Unsuccessful Cinematic Clash (complete with images!)
(NOTE: all the extra numbers and such are assuming we're not rolling in private communication

      [SUCCESSFUL]

    • [UNSUCCESSFUL] Player A initiates a Cinematic Strike against Noctshua.

      Advantages/Buffs
We're almost there, folks! I’ll make advantages and disadvantages as short and simple as possible.

      Advantages for Noctshua:

      • Noctshua will start off with +10 to each of his Action Rolls. That means that every roll of a d20 I make for him will have 10 added to it.

      • Every time crystals are purified, egis are beat up, and Phoenix is defeated, this number will go down—including into the negatives, which will give him a disadvantage.

      • Purified crystal: -1
Contaminated crystal: + 2 (this is bad, you want negative numbers! Unless you're sabotaging on purpose.)
        Defeated egi: -3
Defeated Phoenix: -5 (per round where Phoenix loses)

        Advantages for Everyone else:

        • All advantages will be added to ALL of your rolls. All of them. Every single one. Yes, even that one.

        • These advantages will also work on Phoenix. Note that Phoenix does not have any advantages of his own.

        • Remember, use this list for when you make your d20 rolls only. I’ll take care of adding these advantages when calculating damage against Noctshua/Phoenix.
          Advantage List:
Character has trained with Joshua in the past: +2 (if you’re unsure, check with me)
Participation in Investigation: + 2 (on top of any perks/buffs I’ve sent you already)
          Participation in Intermission: + 1
“Happy” journal found: + 1 (for everyone. Yes, even you.)
ETA Solutions found during Intermission: +1

That should be it for battle mechanics! If needed, I can adjust them and I'm open to any feedback. We still have a few days before the log is due to go up, so changes are easy to make.

And finally we have a general form for anyone who'd like to do any overall planning.

General Plotting Comment Form

FAQ

(some of this is just copy/pasted from the other plotting post. I’m tired, leave me alone.)

How do we unlock the true ending?
Teamwork! Everyone’s involvement in Part Two will add up in real time to chip away at any advantages Noctshua has in his fight threads—and he’ll have a lot. The idea here is that he’s very hard (but not impossible!) to beat at first, but as other threads go on, he becomes weaker. I promise isn’t a case of “my blorbo can beat up your blorbo!!!” It’s more about getting everyone to work together in a cool way. At least I hope it’s cool.

So basically, the more characters who interact with the crystals, fight Caladrius and Adarna, fight Phoenix, or do other things, the weaker (or stronger, if things go awry!) Noctshua becomes. The weaker Noctshua becomes, the easier it’ll be for other characters to deliver all doses of the antidote—or kill him, if you’re going for the worst ending.

Can I participate in more than one part?
Technically, yes. Anyone can sign up for the crystals (since spots are unlimited) or fight Caladrius and/or Adarna (since they’re player controlled) and/or also sign up for one of the fight threads. For the fights, I won’t put a strict ban on participating in both, but try to give other players a couple of days before you throw your name in a second fight thread since the spots are limited. Again, I don’t expect them to fill up, but you never know.

That battle system is too complicated/not my thing/I just wanna write, bruh.
No problem!

The system is mostly there for players who prefer something more concrete when it comes to fight scenes. If you'd rather we just write out whatever happens and go with the flow, I'm more than happy to accommodate. We can also keep some aspects of it like the Cinematic Clashes if that's something that interests you. Just make sure to keep an open channel of communication so we can plan as we go!

How do I get in touch with you?
PM [personal profile] empyreancatastrophe, find me on the game Discord, or leave a comment in the Questions thread! Please don’t be shy in reaching out. I don’t bite and I’m as intimidating as a sock.

When do I have to sign up by?
As soon as you possibly can. Limited slots are first come, first serve.

Overall, please sign up by July 24th at the absolute latest. As much as I want to give extra time, I won’t be able to.

Can characters from outside the game join in?
Absolutely! The more the merrier. I just ask two three things:
1) If you or anyone you know plans on bringing in an FF16 character, please inform me, as this will change quite a few things and will require some communication (also to be fair and let them know what they’re in for).

2) If any of Joshua’s past CR is coming in for a visit, please also let me know as that may change a few plot elements, as well!

3) Priority for limited slot threads will be given to characters in the game already. Outside characters will be auto-waitlisted. (Characters who were Joshua’s CR in the past and/or FF16 characters will be given a separate way to participate, if the need arises.)

Finally, a big big BIG thank you to those who've participated so far. I've been putting a lot of work and effort into building an event that I'm truly hoping will be a fun way to lead into the overall endgame events. Knowing that at least a few people are enjoying this stupid little thing I've created makes it worth it. And if you're even thinking about joining in, please do! Everyone (and I mean everyone!!!) is welcome.

And a special thank you to the mods for being supportive in allowing my shenanigans despite everything else they have on their plates!

I'll continue to do my best in trying to make this as fun and engaging as possible! Thank you for reading.

Hey Songerein! It’s me, ya girl, Gen!

Today I’d like to bring you a player plot that’s been cooking for a long time. Like. A really long time. A plot that’s going to hopefully help us finish the game strong by bridging a few gaps between what the mods have planned and some other loose ends that your characters may want/need an avenue to take care of (see below where I give some hints towards what to expect for Part Two).

The point of this post is to get everyone on the same page, starting with signing up for the first part of the plot as well as getting a rough idea of what your character will likely be doing. Since this will be on a semi-condensed timeline, it’ll be beneficial to everyone involved to have some basic plans set for the next month. Of course, those plans can change, so don ‘t feel obligated to stick with what you’ve started with!

First, let’s talk about what to expect for Part One (July 1st to July 25th):

INVESTIGATION: July 1st to 17th

  • It turns out that Local Prince Fire Chicken, Joshua Rosfield, has mysteriously vanished following a massive kaiju battle between two Dragons, Charizilla, and Burning Bird (guess which one he was)

  • Those close to him will know that he keeps meticulous records in his journals—this could be a good starting point for where he could be/what is going on (or maybe some information that can come in handy for some stuff later on in the plot HMMM)

  • The more people (close to him or not!) that are involved in the investigation process, the more information everyone will get for Part Two of the plot. I’ll provide all the text and/or information you’ll need to read, all you have to do is let me know what your characters conclude afterwards, either by sharing a thread or handwaving it (no matter what their conclusion is, we’ll make it work).

  • I'll need the conclusions by July 16th. It's okay if your thread (if you choose to have one) isn't finished by that time. I'll just need to know what your characters come up with so I can adjust accordingly!

  • Investigation isn’t limited to reading journals/texts. There will be clues around where the battle took place, as well as other places, if your character is more hands on.

  • You can sign up to investigate either solo or in pairs/small groups (3 max, please!), just remember that you’ll have to find a way to share the info your characters gather with each other.

  • If there is an interest for it, I’ll set up a log post where characters can meet up to discuss their findings or where you can make an infodump comment about what your character plans on contributing. Please tell me if this is something you’d like me to put together! (Totally cool with whatever majority decides, just let me know definitively!)

  • In the event that there is no log, or if you cannot participate in it for any reason, there will be a form in the comments of this post to fill out with the results of your characters' investigations.

What if my character doesn’t care about this dumb bird boy, but I want to join in so I can get some perks later on?

First of all, yes, you’re right. He’s very dumb and very bird. Second, you want some hooks? Well, I got your hooks right here, buddy:

  • The appearance of these massive creatures, particularly the crater caused by the landing of one small skyscraper sized Phoenix, has raised some concern for the (literal) impact on local wildlife.

  • Rumors are buzzing around Orkili about screams heard at night near some of the caves, and there are calls for someone to look into it.

  • Maybe related to the above, a small section of Orkili has been experiencing localized blackouts, as if the nostilium is being siphoned elsewhere.

  • A volunteer at the Archives can be overheard grumbling about how some jerk borrowed 16 books at once and hasn’t returned them yet. Yeah, there’s an emergency going on, but it’s been like two months. Seriously, dude?

  • None of these piquing your interest? No probs. Send me a message or respond to the Questions/Comments thread and we’ll come up with a custom prompt.

Hold up, did you say something about perks?

Sure did! Participation in this part of the plot will earn perks for Part Two (don’t worry, there will be opportunities to earn perks at the beginning of Part Two, as well!).

How do I join in investigating, and does that keep me from doing anything else?
Sign up below with the provided form! Participation does not prevent your character from joining in the rest of the plot, nor does your character have to be part of the investigation to join in later. However, keep in mind that the more people who participate, the more everyone benefits with more options and easier battles in Part Two.

REVEREIN AND THE NIGHTMARE CITY: July 18th to 25th

As the mod notes say, Joshua will be reappearing in Reverein at the start of the event! However, something will be noticeably off about him.

  • It could be related to some rumors about a strange figure that's been spotted wandering aimlessly throughout the streets the past couple of nights. (It is. It is absolutely related to that. It's literally him, but your characters won't figure that out until y’all find him so humor me.)

  • With the Absolute State Joshua will be found in, and some associated implications with it, he'll need to be brought to the Nightmare City.

  • You do not need to sign up for interaction during the event

  • I’ll have a toplevel set up and ready to go for anyone interested in this leg of the player plot, along with a bit of a teaser for what’s going to lead us into Part Two

  • At the start of this toplevel, and also in a separate post that I'll put up before Part Two is slated to begin, I'll provide a "State of the Realm" style update on what has been uncovered for ease of access to anyone joining in later or for those who'd like a summary.

Now, let’s take a look at Part Two (July 26th – August 1st-ish; it’s flexible)

JOSHUA’S DREAMSCAPE

So! Details here are going to be pretty sparse so we can keep some sense of intrigue and suspense… and also because what characters uncover during the first two portions of the plot will impact the setup for Part Two!

Here is what I can/will say:

  • If your character has any secrets, romantic/platonic feelings, evil/mean hijinks, or introspective deep dives you’d like to get out of their system, Part Two will provide an opportunity for it! Characters who complete these threads will also receive perks, and impact how the final fights go. Even if they do something evil.

  • Do you enjoy writing fight threads? Well, you’ll have a few different options, up to and including two different flavors of kaiju battle. One that will be completely up to you as a player (small kaiju), and another where you and I will have to roll some dice (large kaiju).

  • We’ll also have to roll dice for anyone fighting the Final Boss

  • To anyone who’s played/watched Final Fantasy XVI, I have two words: Cinematic Clashes

  • To anyone who hasn’t played/watched Final Fantasy XVI, I present: Cinematic Clashes

  • To anyone who hasn’t played/watched Final Fantasy XVI and is actively trying to avoid spoilers PLEASE DO NOT CLICK THE ABOVE LINK (thumbnail technically has a spoiler, but there's no context; the first two minutes is stuff you see in the demo and the first minute should be safe, but don’t say I didn’t warn you; also this is your obligatory blood/violence warning including an incident involving a dog (he’s fine))

  • BASICALLY, if you want your character to have the chance to either a) reach some closure and/or b) do something really badass and/or show off how strong they are, Part Two is for you.

Are there sign ups for this part of the plot?
Yes! There will be sign ups for three different areas.

1) Any threads involving the character closure segment will need to be done in pairs or small groups (no more than 3, again!). You can also sign up your character for a random pairing with another. I have a contingency plan in case we have an odd character out. Unlimited slots
2) Large Kaiju fi—it’s Phoenix. Okay? You’ll be fighting Phoenix. Big surprise, I know. (the small, player led kaiju fight is a surprise, tho). Limited Slots
3) Final Boss. Limited Slots

Some basic questions:
When do I have to sign up by?
The sooner, the better. I hate to rush anyone, especially since we’re entering endgame and there are a lot of feelings all around, so if you need a bit of time, I understand. If possible, though, please sign up no later than July 5th July 10th for the investigation portion. The future signups will have their own deadlines depending on participation and interest. If you need some wiggle room, get in touch with me and we’ll work something out.

Can characters from outside the game join in?
Absolutely! The more the merrier. I just ask two things:
1) If you or anyone you know plans on bringing in an FF16 character, please inform me, as this will change quite a few things and will require some communication (also to be fair and let them know what they’re in for).
2) If any of Joshua’s past CR is coming in for a visit, please also let me know as that may change a few plot elements, as well!

How do we contact you?
PM [personal profile] empyreancatastrophe, find me on the game Discord, or leave a comment in the Questions thread!

But wait, what’s going to happen to Joshua?
Well, now, that’s up to you folks. :)

Joshua’s fate will depend on how everyone’s characters handle all of the above parts—and I mean all of them, from the investigation process to the final battle(s). I have three different endings planned, with minor differences that can occur depending on character participation.

What I'm saying here is that what you do matters! And for the record, I’m cool with any of these outcomes, so don’t feel pressured to act any particular way. Do what is fun for you!

PLOT WITH ME: JULY 2024 Welcome to Songerein's Plot With Me Meme!

Activity Check: June 2024

ACTIVITY CHECK: JUNE 2024 It's time for the monthly Activity Check!

Please refer to the Activity Check section in our Game Info page for complete details, but here is the quick list of what you need to know:

  • Only threads dated from June 1st through June 30th will count. (Exception: certain backdated threads, TDM threads, read the sections for more details.)

  • You must provide one thread of at least 5 comments each. The comment count is from your character.

  • Any thread counts, including those made within your own entries and subthreads within your own toplevels. Individual entry posts do not count.

  • Continuation threads are considered as part of the previous thread so they count as one thread not two. Please link both separately so we don't get confused.

  • Backdated threads can be counted so long as they 1) start in the previous month, 2) the majority of the comments are in the current AC month, and 3) were not used for the previous month.

  • You are exempt from any checks for hiatuses that last for over 21 days. Anything less and you'll still need to submit your AC unless there are other circumstances.

  • As a reminder to those who received a special free AC pass back in December 2022. If you plan to use it, unless there is an extreme personal emergency, we will not allow a hiatus exemption before or after the month of using the pass. This is so we don't get a weird case of { Hiatus > Free Pass } or { Free Pass > Hiatus } or { Hiatus > Free Pass > Hiatus } scenarios as that would effectively allow a player to skip two to three ACs in a row and we do not want that.

Click for list of free pass holders

  • Because we are a capped game, there is no strike system. If you do not make the AC requirements, you will be cut.

There will be no warnings. All submissions are due Sunday, June 30th 11:59PM US Central.

If you have any questions, ask them here.

BONUS INQUIRIES This is not required and completely optional, but included in the AC submission form is a field to allow players to note any special incidents, encounters, or discoveries that occurred in their threads. So if a character found some creature or a location, you are welcome to include it so we can add it to the setting. You are also free to comment for other submissions on the World Directory.

You can also make quest requests to be included in the upcoming Dream Boards. If possible we'll add them immediately, otherwise we'll save them for the next Board. If you don't have one in mind, you can post it later to the upcoming Mod Announcement.

THE FORM Fill out the following form and comment directly to this post. If you have multiple characters, please put them in one comment.
