It's our favorite time of the season and that means our favorite festival is back! The Flower Festival is in full swing and this year is looking to be very interesting with a few twists, it's almost dreamy.

Our Test Drive Meme is going to be the event itself. There will not be a separate TDM.

TDM = EVENT

For this month, our Test Drive Meme will not be a separate log but will be the event itself. Those who are considering applying may comment and toplevel into the event log. This means the characters are suddenly appearing during the Festival period and technically existing for the rest of the month. However, guest characters can only be active within the festival log. They are still free to use the Dream Board for additional prompts and can do timey-wimey things to incorporate the rest of April in their threads, but non-game characters can only be threading within the festival log.

Even if a character is not applied for, random disappearances already happen and can be timed with the end of the month, so while characters might feel a little sad their friend didn't stay longer, it won't be too jarring. Players are also free to retcon a character's appearance if it's feasible and better for them.

It's a little similar to a fourth wall, however we would prefer it if only those who are seriously considering applying to participate.

EMOTION TRACKER UPDATE

The Emotion Tracker has been updated with a new sheet for the coming month. If you forgot any threads from last month, you can still submit to the tracker and just have it count toward this month. This includes any events that occurred.

Well it looks like Aoimandi and Ysenos are feeling pretty popular and thus satisfied with their cult following. Solei and Eipermo on the other hand… Well one is feeling a little hateful and the other a bit depressed. The others are chill.

STATE OF THE TAPIRS

Here’s a glimpse of where each of the Tapir are at right now:

• Aoimandi - Feeling very joyful right now! Spring is here and everyone is feeling much happier compared to the winter months. Though she did enjoy those dreams filled with grief, the joyful ones will be a sweet treat.
  
• Daiaa - Thankful for everyone who is around, little Daiaa is looking forward to seeing how others will show their appreciation to their friends and loved ones. Hopefully they'll share the flowers!! Though a little bit of envy wouldn't hurt…
  
• Eipermo - Sad. Just sad. A little blob of sad. There has been so much sadness and despair in the past few months that it's still overwhelming. Or rather, she got a bit of a stomachache eating all those nightmares. Hopefully some more "hopeful" dreams will ease some of it.
  
• Norphip - Keeping to himself mostly, but is proud of everyone who has been showing willingness to work together against a greater evil. Hopefully no idiots make poor decisions to make everyone turn on each other…
  
• Shtar - Super excited to see some action!!! Definitely looking forward to having adventures in those books, they sound exciting! Should anyone have any fearful dreams, he will be quick to gobble them up so they can be brave again.
  
• Solei - Although there's been so much love going around, Solei is feeling rather unhappy about not being fed enough hate. Not that he wants everyone to hate each other!! But maybe a little less love would be nice…
  
• Ysenos - Hmph. She guesses she can be calm and not smash things. The dreams that had been filled with anger were rather filling so she GUESSES she can just chill and be satisfied with that.
  

WAIT, WHAT GAME IS THIS—

Hahaha, APRIL FOOLS! For those who remember last year, I pulled a similar prank on the old empatheias playerbase so this isn't really so original. But it also kind of is because unlike last time, most of this is real.

Repeating this is all real, the event and changes are not a joke. Songerein has turned a little bit into empatheias for the month! Here are the changes:

• Reverein = Verens: A Town Makeover. For this month, Songerein, specifically the town of Reverein, is having a strange dreamshift. Rather than everyone being sent into a dreamscape, the town of Reverein is changing into the town of Verens from Empatheias. Verens was the central city and it had a similar feel to Reverein, but it was more updated and "modern" in the Victorian steampunk sense. Players unfamiliar with it can refer to here. Otherwise, most everything that Songerein originally had is around and integrated with the setting change. Any businesses made in Songerein are still available, they'll just look a little bit different to match the dreamshift. Feel free to ask us if you'd like to be sure if something is around or changed somehow.
  
  
  • Not included: Port Niras will not be appearing during this month as we have no lake directly attached to the town.
  
  
• Tree of Memories. There is a giant tree called the "Tree of Memories" that will be found in the new central plaza. This tree will be slightly modified and have its own "attractions" during the festival, but it is a large, giant tree that is as high as a clock tower and as wide as a large house. Unlike the original Tree of Memories from Empatheias, this one won't have memory pods. It will have more interesting things hanging off its branches instead: books. There is also a great concentration of dreamotion energy here, so it's a good guess that the tree is the core for this change. There are also some odd black wisps that periodically appear around the books and branches and those sensitive to nightmare energy might notice a bit around it…
  
  
• The Observatory. Although there is no giant floating crystal above it, there is a large building that is fitted with a strange telescope. Anyone can enter it, but it seems as if the people there are interested in studying dreams. Should anyone take a peek through the telescope, it will look as if peering into the dark sky of space, but instead of stars there are fuzzy spheres that represent dreams. Perhaps one of the tapirs will float by and wave. For now it doesn't seem to have much practical use, but perhaps it could be used for something else later? Like…searching for a large, missing spherical object that is no longer in the night sky? We could write a lot, so for those interested in the Observatory should ask questions in the Questions subthread.
  
  
• Other notes. All treehouse residences will remain unchanged. However, the tech will be updated so that there are actual working appliances, PLUMBING, horse carriages, flying motorbikes. Will any of it remain after April? Who knows so enjoy it while it's there.
  
  
• NPCs. Along with the sudden town change there will also be a great influx of Empatheian NPCs that will appear. Because this is a dreamshift, these people have no clue that there's anything weird happening at all—whatever they see they just accept as is and will take any confusion or discrepancy with a shrug. They have a Flower Festival to run and enjoy! The current, local Songerein NPCs are going to be just as confused as the characters but will work with everyone as they will have also experienced the dreamshifts in the past.
  
  
• How is this happening? The deity-like creature from Empatheias, Elios the Arehtei of love and hate, has been feeling lovelorn over there, and because Songerein was created in part from the excess emotion energy from Empatheias, a big enough surge occurred to change the town.
  
  
• Lasts through April. This appearance change will last for the entire month so it'll be a bit confusing for everyone at first. But our handy little tapirs will have (in our usual handwaved way) announced and explained to everyone that this is just like a weird dreamshift coming from "that weird emotional world." Once the clock turns midnight on May 1st, everything will fade away like a glamor suddenly removed, and everything will return to normal. Of course, some things will remain, and those will be noted in May's game notes.
  
  
• The Tapirs. Don't take the "State of Tapir" and Emotion Tracker seriously, both of those are just a fun parody of the State of the Arehtei and Tracker we used for Empatheias. In case you're wondering, the number stats are from the Discord server and reflect the number of members selected for a role (ex, 5 members chose Solei).

To be clear, only the town is changing, everything else outside of it remains untouched. So the Wildlands, the Cliffs, the Wastelands—all of that is the same as usual.

FLOWERS EVERYWHERE

With the Zephyras spring season officially beginning, flowers can be found blooming everywhere. And we mean everywhere. Attracted by any kind of warm feeling, be it happy or angry, flowers are popping up even in places they shouldn't be. Some might just peek in, but some can be rather obtrusive. After all, not all flowers are cute little poppies. Some are quite large…and prickly or even snappy. The kinds of flowers that appear will reflect the emotions around them, so might want to be careful around anyone feeling a bit heated for a negative reason.

This may also make everyone feeling a bit flower minded; so much so they may start dreaming about them! How weird. Just don't be too surprised if anyone wakes up in a bed of flowers, or maybe the bed itself will have turned into some giant leaf or pod.

Refer to the Dream Board to see other problems that are cropping up due to the seasonal change.

FLOWER FESTIVAL

For those unfamiliar, the Flower Festival was an annual event we threw in empatheias and it was basically a fun festival event with heavy flower and spring themes. It had a romantic slant to it as well as its game lore origins was based on helping the young single folk find their partner. Over time it became more of a family friendly affair, but there are a lot of "partner" and "team" games and attractions. The Festival also has the Flower King and Queen which we'll get to after discussing the main Festival post.

IMPORTANT TDM REMINDER! As we mentioned at the top of the post, this event doubles as the TEST DRIVE MEME. Anyone who wishes to join us in the May app cycle is welcome to participate in this log. Refer back to the top section for more information, and we'll also have instructions on the log itself.

For Songerein, we have a slew of things characters can do during the festival:

• Flower Viewing. One of the biggest draws of the festival is to relax and watch the blooming flowers. Food and drinks are provided or can be brought from home, so a perfect time for picnics and mingling. Maybe even make some flower crowns! Of course, with the flowers being…unique in Songerein, it may not always be so peaceful.
  
  
• Games. What kind of festival would this be without a lot of carnival booth-like games? There are a number of them, but here is a quick list of what will be available: Pebble Toss, Goose Rings, Bubble Pop!, Flighty Flower Lanterns, Smash!, Swan Gondola Races. And of course, the Flower Maze.
  
  
• Music and Dancing. There will be a central location for concerts to be held and dances to be had. Anyone will be allowed up on the stage to perform.
  
  
• Tree of Memories. A few attractions will be available around the Tree of Memories, some fun and some…a little questionable. While it has a lot of flowers, hanging off its branches aren't pods but giant books about five feet in height. They sway lazily in the wind, and there are also small owls that fly around and greet anyone who come by.
  
  
  • Dream Petals. As the Tree's petals fall, anyone who manages to catch one before it hits the ground will find their secret dream reflected on it. It could be something they are longing for or something they wish to keep from anyone. Once the dream's reflection is complete, it will remain on the petal and can be viewed at any time.
    
    
  • Dreamscape Rooms. Selected by the owls, a few of the books can be found lying open on the ground. Everything is blank—there are no titles, no words, no pictures. The owl will beckon anyone who wants a "fun adventure" to dreamwalk into the book and have an adventure through its pages. Players can use any fairy tale, folklore, myth, or other fictional legend to create a storyline for their characters to go through, or they can use any kind of fantasy story generator to come up with something. The characters will be thrown into random roles for the story and will need to complete at least three objectives. Players can of course handwave the actual grunt work and just have fun with their characters stuck in the story setting. Fortunately, there is a one hour time limit. If the characters are unable to get through the story, the owls will yank them (safely) out and the book will remain on the ground for another group to try their luck. If they succeed, the story will magically appear on its pages and the book will hang proudly on the tree's branches.
    
    
  • Soaring Butterflies. Ever wanted to just ride on something huge and enjoy the flight? There are giant butterflies that are large and strong enough to carry up to three people on their backs. These butterflies are actually local to Songerein and brought in by a native Fae. Whether that makes them more or less trustworthy is up to the character, but the butterflies are definitely frisky—and fast.
    
    
  • Book Cages. Sometimes something a little weird happens around the Tree. Black wispy energy will seep from the hanging books and they will suddenly drop down on unsuspecting visitors, especially anyone who has a lot of love in them. The book will open and the pages will fly out like walls and trap the victim before it transforms into a bird cage and hurls them back up high into the tree. Although unharmed, the prisoner will start feeling some of their feelings of love being drained away and making them more irritable and hateful towards things. It will be up to someone else to try and get them out. Fortunately it's not too difficult a task—just need to get up that tree somehow and break through the iron-paper bars. Some fire should do the trick. The problem is, it needs to be fire made from dreamotion and focused on some variant of love or loyalty. It doesn't have to be towards the prisoner at least, so anyone will do. However, the tree seems intent in keeping the prisoner, so thorny vines will try and smack anyone away. The owls will also try to assist, but they're kind of small and useless. But maybe the Giant Butterflies might be useful?
  
  

Those are the main highlights of the event! The festival lasts 3 IC days starting on April 8th, so basically just over the weekend. But everyone can take as long as needed to thread things out. The attractions involving the Tree of Memories will also be available after the festival, and that includes the random cages. It should be noted that the Book Cages are a rare occurrence and only happen to a handful of people. Still concerning, though.

Should anyone try to actually destroy the Tree of Memories, the owls will suddenly turn into one giant owl and look similar to the giant Fire Owl that appeared back in January. That begs the question of what these owls are. Are they related…?

FLOWER KING AND QUEEN

This part is more for fun flavor than anything else. Characters can nominate anyone to be the "Flower King" and "Flower Queen" and IC votes are submitted to see who will win. Characters can nominate and vote for as many people as they want, but they can only vote once for that person. The winners are chosen during the last day of the festival and are paired to spend some time together at the festival. They are also made to wear some very interesting costumes for the whole day. Who knows what it will be this time~ So we're going to kill this mod post by using this to vote. Here's how it will work:

• There are two designated subthreads: Flower King and Flower Queen.
  
  
• Nominations are IC (ie characters are nominating each other or themselves), so using your character journals, players will comment under the appropriate subthread with the nominated character's name in the subject (ex: SOLDIER: 76). In the main body of the comment, you can include an image to act as a kind of poster ad for the character and we include a code for it! (If the code looks familiar it's just your imagination—)
  
  
• To vote, everyone replies with their character journals with +1 in the subject line. Remember, these are IC votes!
  
  
• Characters can nominate as many people as they want. Characters can also vote for as many people they want, however they can only vote once per person. So Kazuma could vote for Susato, Bennett, and Sora, but can only comment once under each.
  
  
• Gender does not matter. Males can be Queens and females can be Kings. They can also be nominated under both categories. In the event that a character somehow wins both, we'll randomly decide which they will represent and the second place winner will take the slot.

And that should be it! Everyone has until the end of Wednesday, April 6 to submit their votes. We'll announce the winners on the following Thursday.

WORLD UPDATES

Be it new NPCs, creatures, places, or some other discovery or creation, the world of Songerein continues to grow! So here are a few things as a result of the Dream Board and other submissions:

NPCs:

• Debbie-May, Debbie-Lou, and Debbie-Lee. From 101 Dalmation Street, these three Dalmation pups will be taken by an NPC farmer but still can be found around town. Very energetic, will come running if they hear something like "dinner" or "ball" or "who wants a group hug?" Used to life in late 2010's suburbs and may visit the markets every so often... And since they are also used to living in a big household they aren't seen apart from each other too often.
  
  With them comes a phenomenon called the "World Wide Woof." It's a way to relay information for dogs in their world through coordinated barking and howling. Though the "signal" is capable of being intercepted when the message is first sent out, it makes for a great distress signal.

Beastiary:

• Marui and Leia discovered literal dust bunnies when they revisited Marui's old treehouse.
  
  
• Flower goats. Grazers of the land, alternative sources of plant-based meat, and likely milk with some floral hints depending on their flower type! Probably a way for flowers to grow as well as they move around, they're gonna be great pollinators.
  
  
• Flower horses. Continuing the flower animal trend, a small herd of horses with flowers growing from their manes, tails, and fetlocks have been discovered and a few ranchers have taken some in. They are quite docile and as long as they are well groomed and taken care of, they are willing to work with anyone who wishes to ride them. They are fairly intelligent and seem to understand any language spoken to them.

Places:

• A joint venture between Diluc Ragnvindr and Barok van Zieks, At Day's End is a bar and winery located in the heart of the market district. Small but not crowded, the owners encourage a relaxed atmosphere welcoming to both connoisseurs and workers seeking a refreshing drink. Serves a small variety of high-quality wines, ciders and nonalcoholic juices, with more to come. Full bottles are also available for trade, and many of the vintages available have dramatic names such as Midnight Harvest and Darkened Sea. Though there are no food offerings, patrons are welcome to bring their own snacks and meals—just clean up after yourselves. Or else.
  
  
• 76, Yujin Mikotoba, and Herlock Sholmes revisited the cave containing special flowers and discovered that things were still very much dead outside of a few glowing fungi. The cave has not been completely abandoned despite the looks of it- the ent-like creatures had instead gone deeper underground and through some strong illusionary magic created a hidden entrance within it. The Glowing Dawn flowers are flourishing in this newly carved out and deeper underground section of the cave; the cavern itself also seems to be doing very well, and seems to be even larger than the original cavern. It is filled with glowing waters supplied by an underground spring feeding into underground rivers. Fungi and plant-life once more grow alongside the flowers that seem to repulse Noctaere.
  
  
• The Wild Harvest serves various western and eastern style earth-based street food dishes. A special menu is rotated every month.
  

  Wild Harvest's specials for the month are:

  
  
  • Dream Ade - A calming fruity drink with cider. The glowy rainbowy colors comes from the glowing fruits around the pub and there's a slight essence of Dawn Flowers added to help one sleep better at night. (One might feel slight discomfort if they have a bit of nightmare energy already in them).
    
  • Lucky tea drinks - Green matcha tea with an essence of four leaf clovers that give you a small boost of luck for the day (Probably just make you feel more energized).
    
  • Pizza: Comes in the standard, cheese, meet or veggie. Can be customized if ingredients are available!
    
  • Sakura Sugar Cookies and Dawn Flower Butter Cookies

  
  New glowing fruit fixtures have been set up/planted around the pub. There are also Blazing Flowers being grown inside 76's space that occasionally causes the room to glow.
  
  
• The Music Studio has an injection of sheet music courtesy of Sholmes. He's transcribed (from memory) a handful of concertos from Paganini, Mendelssohn, and the like. Accuracy is questionable, his sheet music is very messy and the margins are scribbled with notes that may or may not pertain to the song itself.
  
  
• Thanks to Kor and friend's efforts, the lake is a lot cleaner!

Other:

• Maddie's building a moon! Info here. She is gathering dreamotion energy derived of people's tales and memories of their respective moons to try and make everyone's Dreamer's Moon. This will be a multi-month endeavor. Does this paint a target on her back? Maybe. Bring it on.
  
  
• Beatrix is trying to establish an official guard as an addition to the council proposed by Yujin Mikotoba last month. Should see more on how this evolves in the coming month(s).
  
  
• The Witch's Brew will have fulfilled the goal of providing a vial to everyone who helped, and they will be able to offer it in the future!
  
  
• Alastor visited the dream/nightmare of Doctor Octopus and actively manipulated the dreamscape by finishing the machine he found there even though he never ran into Doctor Octopus himself. He also saw dream logic twisting to make it even possible for him to finish building the machine that should've been far, far beyond his technical prowess.
  
  
• Ori spent at least one day casting Plant Growth over the fields (and Barok and Diluc's vineyards) as part of the Spring Planting quest. Casting this spell over that long of a period will enrich the land for a year and cause plants in the area to "yield twice the normal amount of food when harvested," according to the spell description...!
  
  
• The smithy is slightly less smelly. There are still butts though.
  
  
• If anyone is looking for the toad/frog population of Songerein, Mammon has been collecting them all month in the off chance that he found the lucky money toad
  
  
• Tsurumaru & Kiki delivered a money toad to the requester (ID305), and the after a kiss, the money toad turned into a toad princess…

Man you guys were busy bees, huh? Looks like a lot of interesting things are developing!

DREAM BOARD

✵ DREAM BOARD: APRIL 2022 ✵

How the Dream Board works:

• This is all optional, the quests are just extra content for players and while they can sometimes relate to upcoming or current events, they're just kind of "filler" stuff. Some will be set out in Songerein proper while others may involve dreams.
  
  
• The Dream Board can be found at the Plaza and quests will automatically appear on it like a bulletin board. Some will also appear in the journals. Anyone can accept them and rewards automatically generated upon completion of the task. It's a dream world, it's full of magic, it just knows.
  
  
• Quests can be done as many times as a character would do them and rewards will be delivered to the character upon completion.
  
  
• If you have any questions, comment to the designated subthread.

401	Pspspsbuzz. With the arrival of all these flowers comes a special type of cat-bee. While harmless, they are very much attracted to sweet things and have no issues getting into your personal space if you have something they’re interested in. They’re also quite loud, buzzing and purring and occasionally mewing at people to get their attention. And, like bees and cats alike, they have no issues using claws and/or stingers to attack if they’re irritated. There are people around town who are getting frustrated with their noise and pushiness. As it turns out, not everyone likes cat-bee butts in their faces or being pestered every time they have candy or dessert. It would be helpful to try and encourage the cat-bees to stick to the flowers and give those residents a bit of peace.	The gratitude of your neighbors. If you manage to befriend a cat-bee in the process, you might also get a bit of honey for your trouble.
402	Musical instruments. With Reverein now having instruments, I'm looking for someone who might be able to make a few on a slightly-larger scale than what's at the theater. I'll source and provide the necessary materials, and we can negotiate payment for quality work done.	Negotiation
403	Singing plants. Just outside of town are special singing plants whose leaves are considered quite valuable for their medicinal properties. They’re easy to find; all someone has to do is follow the pleasant tone of its voice to a stalk of leafy greens ripe for the plucking. (Note: Should one attempt to snag a leaf, however, they’ll quickly discover that the "singing plant" in question is a mandragora who was happily humming itself a little tune until it was so rudely interrupted–and it has no qualms fighting people about it.) 404	Dreamotion allergies. Those unfortunate souls who suffer from seasonal allergies are in for a tough time, because all of these flowers and trees coming back to life after the winter also can trigger some interesting dreamotion effects in those whose histimamines are going haywire. A sneeze might be accompanied by a small burst of fire, or watery eyes could trigger a small raincloud to follow the person around all day. Others are lucky (?) enough to only deal with regular hayfever symptoms. The effects are different for each person. Luckily, one of the local apothecaries in town is testing out a concoction that might help relieve symptoms. The downside is that it might cause some strange side effects…	A lifetime supply of magical benadryl as thanks for being a guinea pig.
405	Walking chocolate statue!? There's a weird chocolate statue that appears during the night and it's melting and it's creepy!! It's not haunted or some kind of noctaere thing is it!?!?!? Someone get rid of it it's ruining my love of chocolate!!!! (Note: this is Sholme's chocolate statute of himself and he and Gina are on the case. Anyone can do whatever they wish to it and can inform them of the sighting)	N/A
406	Flower fairies. Floral fairies can be found around Reverein Verens, tending to the flowers to make sure they look their absolute best for the festival. They’re a friendly sort, especially to those who help them tend to and/or plant more flowers throughout town. There’s no such thing as too many flowers!	A beautiful and happy flower festival, and some new fairy friends.
407	Season of love. Conversely, there are those who think there might be too many flowers growing around town. The dreamotion energy from those who are lucky in love is causing flowers to spring up all over in some places, from rooftops to roadways to various machinery around town. Some pruning might be in order to prevent things from being so overgrown they can’t operate.	You can keep the flowers you cut.
408	Crystal Fishing. There has been a sudden influx of fish that have a taste for dreamotion charged crystals. They're also huge and are crowding the lake and starting to head up river. The dwarves have helped gather crystals that can absorb dreamotion energy, so fill these babies up with anything positive and use them as bait.	Can keep extra crystal bait; taste of the new fish is unknown so eat at your own risk.

Phew, that should be everything! This is an exciting month for us and we hope everyone will have fun with it! For the record, the template for this mod announcement is from empatheias. But one day I will revamp our game notes…

I can't remember if there were speakers in Empatheias or not. Because honestly Alastor would be tempted to take full advantage of being able to broadcast even to a few localized speakers if it's possible at all.

Is it possible during the dreamshift that characters might take on their (otherwise involuntary) dream forms, or would it not "count" since they aren't technically in a proper dreamscape? Maybe just within the town itself, since the wilds and such aren't affected?
