Permanent Residency Quest Part II

Hihi! I'm back here again about the permanent residence quest. For those who need a refresher or are new, Eustace made a journal post back in January looking for any who would be interested in looking into finding a way to stay in Songerein permanently. I had made an OOC post for sign-ups at the time, and I now have a permanent info post on Eustace's journal for easy reference.

This will be a several months long endeavor with the final result/solution likely occurring near end of 2023. As for how to actually make progress with this, I've come up with at least a few different categories, all of which can be adjusted and tailored to fit the characters participating. It's all outlined in the info post, but I'll include it here as well:

So I have a general idea of what the end solution will be. The regain bauble will be a part of it, as well as needing both dreamotion and nightmare energy in some form. While there will need to be several physical items, they would also have a connecting theme. A character's will and personal trial will also be incorporated in some way. Whether the character must sever their connection to their home world or be able to keep it and maintain control is also something that can be (and currently is!) investigated. It's very likely I will end that as optional, but it will all depend on the input and IC results.

Of course, these are just my loose thoughts and I'll likely be changing or adjusting as time goes on.

For now, this is just a brief list of things I've thought of to try and divvy out to various players. It's not exhaustive, will be updated as specific tasks are given out and completed, and is just giving everyone an idea of what could be done.

• Dragon Island. Get some tasty info from the dragons since they have cool magic and stuff. And other things. Some tasks could be dragons making a challenge to succeed, a quest or job fulfill, some problem that's come up that solving will help garner trust. Some possible rewards:
  
  
  • Info: could be about magic, something about the world or dream connection the dragons might know
    
  • Special item: dragon scale, dragon treasure, special jewel from the island, some talisman, fruit, endless possibilities
  
  
• Other special locations. Other locations outside of town could be considered, too, if they appear. So mostly a placeholder here.
  
  
• Library Dive. Aside from general research, go into certain books or stories that could relate to world traveling OR just a story that could have a spell or item that could be used for the final spell or however permanent residency is achieved. Perhaps the stories fit a different theme that is related to all this.
  
  
• Monster Hunt. Take down a legendary beast that has a lot of dreamotion energy. Could need an item from the monster, or this could be part of the personal trial so need to collect something else, like one's dreamotion energy that manifests during the fight.
  
  
• Item Fetchquests. Yeah gotta have the staple. It would likely be a chain of get items to create a new item, or could be necessary to unlock something else. Could also be just needing to go on a special treasure hunt to find a specific item. Either way, good fillers if needed.
  
  
• General Research. Not the most exciting but gotta be done. Where most of the lore dump and discoveries will be found. Could find ways to spice it up, such as needing to curry favor to a certain fae to get answers or help librarians or researchers at the Observatory with something to unlock info.
  
  
• Dreamotion Connection. Study and research needs to be done on how characters are even connected to the world. This part is a little vague for now...or rather I'm just not spilling the deets here fufu.
  
  
• Dreams and Dreamwalking. Of course we're going to need a few of these!
  
  
• Nightmares and Noctaere. This will also be required, but these will be done later in the timeline.
  
  
• Player Suggestions. I am always open to other ideas, whether it's something not in this list or a special way to incorporate them, I am all ears!

Some of these could be random discovery, or they could be directed/discovered in research.

I also plan to have some general, public quests/tasks that will go up on the dream board that anyone can participate that would connect and help develop this.

Thus for this post, I am once again asking if there is anyone who would like to join in! If you do, please feel free to comment to the sign-up thread. Those who signed up last time, if you don't mind please comment again! This helps not only confirm the list, but I have some new fields in the form: Task Preference and Month Preference. If there's a task category you like or a month you'd prefer to do this, please fill it out! March is included, but I would prefer to not have everything happen in the same month, so I would prefer if you could space each other out! If not, I will have to adjust time frames. Characters can participate/help in multiple tasks, we just need to be sure everyone has at least a chance at one.

IMPORTANT! Characters (and players) can freely join and change their mind later, just let me know. Characters can also team up with each other OR have someone not part of the sign-up group help. This sign-up is mostly for those who have primary interest in this endeavor, but anyone else can assist. As for how a character can join later, let's just pretend Eustace made a poster/ad/thing about it on the Dreamboard and Tree of Stories that is always visible and we can handwave or thread out interactions.

Reason for Joining: As he's already said, he really doesn't have anything to go back to. He'd like to try to keep Elmore from going into the Void, but regardless he won't want to return if he doesn't have to.
Task Preference: So I have been wanting to do some sort of interactive dream scenario with the Void, but I want it to be something where people can make their own toplevels because it's got lots of different possibilities. I've been trying to figure out how exactly to work it or if it should be some sort of player plot situation, but I also haven't been sure how to make that approach work. Basically, it's a realm for all the world's mistakes, and we can have it include stuff from all the worlds here because dreamotion or whatever. The real one has everything from extinct animals to mullets to early design ideas the show scrapped before it started. If there's some way it can work into this plot, that would be very handy!

Otherwise, he can probably do anything apart from fighting creatures. Unless it's several months from now and he's trained more.
Month Preference: Any time from March through July should work.
Suggestions: I already tl;dred mine. I'm not sure what this will entail, but Rob could definitely come up with villain-y suggestions or plans for things.

Oh now that would be neat. I think we can definitely work that in for this! As for how to do it, hmmm. How widescale would you want it to be? Like would you expect maybe a small group or have it more of a gamewide thing? Cos I can also see it as either like you said /taps chin. And if it were more of a gamewide thing, it could slot in place of one of our events around July... I think.

I was hoping everyone could have the opportunity to do something if they wanted, but depending on interest and what it ends up being maybe it could be both? Small group plot, open Void fun/not fun for everyone else? Not sure how that could affect the calendar.

Reason for Joining: Really it's to help out the people who want to stay here. He isn't sure if he wants to stay just yet but if there's anything he can do to move this along, he'd want to lend a hand.
Task Preference: Monster hunt, monster hunt, monster hunt! But he can also do dreams/dreamwalking or something to do with nightmares and noctaere as well. He's already dealt with two, might as well get that count up!
Month Preference: July-ish if we're going the thing we planned.
Suggestions: The only thing I got is it would be cool to do something Noise related that we can maybe tie into nightmares but I don't have a more solid idea than that. I will definitely ping you if I think of anything else.

Reason for Joining: She wants to help out the people who wish to stay in the world permanently.

Suggestions: It would be cool if the dreams could match to what is the mind of the lead dreamwalker.

Reason for Joining: Phantom wants to stay here and help his friends keep their happiness. He doesn't have any personal motives beyond that of keeping his friends company.
Task Preference: He's good at combat, so he can help with exploring or taking down monsters. I'd also love for him to get in on the dreamotion connection and research more about nightmares.
Month Preference: June or September are good since I definitely have vacations in those months, but I'm also okay with doing tasks in other months if needed.
Suggestions: Phantom ICly is interested in dreamotion connection and finding out how dreamotion and nightmare are related to each other, especially how to balance it in the long term (and to keep the risk of people turning noctaere low).
Questions: None for now!

Reason for Joining: He cannot go home and has nothing left there. He's pretty happy with life in Songerein (shoves aside noctaere complication) and would like to stay here without the uncertainty of "waking up."
Task Preference: RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH. Trahearne was not Tyria's foremost scholar on Orr for nothing. He did not create the archives for nothing. He'll use every possible iteration of his skills for this and will happily take initiative for research projects as well. He obviously doesn't care about getting his hands dirty either, so sign him up for more nitty-gritty research too. He can head projects and organize things to keep things focused--he was also not Pact Marshal for nothing.
Month Preference: This is a good timeframe! Might be away late September tho. Also probably gonna be away most of October.
Suggestions: Points to Songerein... points to the Dream... just sayin...

Reason for Joining: She wants very deeply to protect Tifa and Eustace's happiness here, and wants to find a way so that they can be together forever!
Task Preference: Library Dive, research, and fetch quests is likely what she would try to specialize in!! But really anywhere she would be needed, you know she's going to try to help in-
Month Preference: No specific preferences, but I will likely not be available for most of August, so anything earlier would be great for me!
Suggestions: Considering her recent dream and the presence of Primals from her world, it would be really cool to see if there could be some sort of connection that could bring the two together!

Character: Alisaie Leveilleur
Reason for Joining: Alisaie isn't looking to stay permanently, but she wants to help anyone who wants to accomplish that goal and provide whatever help she can to this expedition.
Task Preference: Alisaie is pretty versatile in terms of what tasks she can do. I am going to list the below as probably the ones I think she might be interested in. I am not sure how to put into this but I know she likes to explore and investigate. Learning is something she seems to have a keen eye for. She's also good with working in groups so if any of these have a group, I feel like she'll be fine to work with folks.

- Nightmares and Noctaere

Month Preference: Anytime after April is good for me!
Suggestions: I don't have any off the top of my head atm but will throw out ideas if I find something!
Questions: None at the moment!

Reason for Joining: He wants to assist Nuadha and everyone who feels strongly about staying behind. For himself, he's still on the fence about whether staying would be the same as abandoning his duty to home.
Task Preference: Dragon Island, Monster Hunt, Fetch Quest — I'm up for throwing him in anywhere! He's a fighter, and he's also used to doing busywork and errands, so I can roll him into just about any role needed. He's less of a mage and would consider himself less experienced at dreamwalking/dreamotion.
Month Preference: No real preference, probably more free May and on.
Suggestions: Undecided if he'll mention it because Baldr is more concerned about magical ethics than 90% of the Rays characters, but he might at least be wondering if making new bodies and transferring souls to them would be one hack for the tethering problem.
Questions: none right now.

Character: Seto Kaiba
Reason for Joining: As an engineer, he's more concerned with how things work. The more he can learn about the dreamscape, the better. Also, since his girlfriend just disappeared he is more invested in finding a way for that sort of separation not to repeat in future. What better way to deal with your problems than by just throwing yourself into work.
Task Preference: Kaiba has made no secret about his obsession/connection to dragons, so he would be leaning more towards seeking them out for information. General Research (because he's a nerd), and MAYBE an occasional fetch quest, but don't abuse this. LOL, or do. Kaiba doesn't get a say.
Month Preference: No preference outside of.. not March. Mun is sick, Muse is confirming that Ann Takamaki is really gone. Busy month.
Suggestions: None currently, but if you need some nightmares for a plot, Kaiba gets plenty of those and they tend to be filled with monsters.
Questions: None currently!

Character: Sorey
Reason for Joining: He's invested! Even with Mikleo here now, and honestly maybe even moreso since he knows he's still asleep for so long. Sorey is also incapable of leaving people alone when they need help, and if people truly want to stay here then he sort of considers it his Shepherd duty to help people live their truest lives
Task Preference: Dragon Island! He's already planning to go for Eustace, and he's approached Kisara about going with him (though maybe it'll be Mikleo instead since Akai plays them both lmao)

I'm also interested in general research, library, and dreaming/dreamwalking

Month Preference: Not a huge preference, but I'm going to be unavailable for the first couple weeks of May so preferably not that month
Suggestions: Not a ton! Link did mention some ruins that need exploring and Sorey was kind of into checking those out with him (and possibly Zelda), if that would somehow be connected to this

If it's a small group plot, then it shouldn't have too much affect. May is really the only month where we can't really do anything.

Hm hm thinking thinking. Alternatively, instead of it being a "player run" event we turn it into a "mod run" event. I'd still need your help since I'm not canon familiar, but we still use the Void from Rob's world and make some kind of connection with dream world and things spill over. HMMM. Definitely something to hammer out, possibly for July or even August. June might be too soon after Story Eater stuff for the tone of this event. But I'll have to see what other suggestions come up.

Okay I got you down... I maaaaay try and work on something that Phantom could be doing in the background to help some build up. Something that can be easily handwaved and maybe tie it in with another task someone is doing. Since May is the off month for everything, anyway, it might work out for something to happen in June (barring other gamewide thing happening)
