DREAM NOTES #04: DECEMBER 1, 2021
Man, can you believe we're at the end of 2021? Where did our lives go… As promised, because it's the holiday season and that critically acclaimed MMO is finally arriving, this month will be filled with lots of fun silly activities. We do have an event, but unlike the last one it'll be more on the fun side...with maybe a little plot relevance.

| WEATHER: SNOW IS HERE~~~! A truly snowy and sometimes glittering Winter Wonderland is upon the town of Reverein, with very happy snow nymphs not helping with the glittery, shiny snow. No blizzards this time...so enjoy the fun, peaceful snowfall! While the river is not completely iced over, there are patches on the outer edges that are safe to stand on, but it thins out towards the center so be careful. Parts of the lake is also frozen with similar varying thickness. |
| OTHER NOTES: Remember the singing fish? They can't make it upriver, but the town will be "blessed" to hear the beautiful dulcets from…caroling crickets. While their uh, "singing" has much to be desired, their string-like performances via their legs sounding like violins, cellos, fiddles, etc. are worth a listen. Watch out for some rogue snowmen. They will come to life whenever anyone is being a grumpy sourpuss and will start hurling snowballs. They'll stick around for a while so either share some joy to appease them or, uh. They're just snowmen, they can be built again, right…? Also everyone is in an ugly sweater for the month, read the section for details. |
Not too much to mention here that won't be addressed in the sections below, but just a reminder that January app cycle is open to current players only. Public app cycle won't be until March. As for the Test Drive, it will be a shortened version since it'll be a smaller pool of people.
✵ WANTED: ASSISTANT PROMPT WRITER ✵
Last month I made a call for at least one helper mod for helping to write up prompts and we are still looking! Except I have made a more appropriate title change because this isn't really a "mod" position of any kind.
As mentioned before, the only job you would have is to help write up the prompts for events, TDMs, intro logs, and Dream Board. You wouldn't be writing anything from scratch unless you feel inspired; we'll have outlines and blurbs to help flesh them out. I'll also still be doing a bulk of the writing so you would just help cut the load a bit. In addition, you'll have the perk of being privy to our think tank so you'll know all the crazy ideas we pitch in for upcoming events while also being welcome to pitch in your own ideas!
Only requirements for this role is being able to write things at the last minute if necessary and intend to stick around the game for at least several months.
Because this is just for writing and potential idea spewing, there is no official application form. Instead just PM the mod journal with the following:

gekijouIf anyone was swept because they missed AC, you can reapply in the March cycle. Just fair warning, we will notice if this happens more than once and we may not allow immediate reapplication the next time.
This puts our player population to 66/75, which means our new player reserve/apps slots are at a maximum 9.
Like last time, we highly encourage our players to place a hiatus if they suspect this month to be busy for various reasons. The only time we judge hiatuses is if someone uses them constantly, but given this is the holiday season it's more understandable.
This month's Activity Check will be reduced to half (1 thread of 5 comments)! However, if you manage to give us full proof (2 threads of 5 comments), you'll earn a special free AC pass that can be used once per character in 2022. The pass will not carry over into the year after so it would have to be used in 2022. In addition, unless there is an extreme personal emergency, we will not allow a hiatus exemption before or after the month of using the pass. This is so we don't get a weird case of { Hiatus > Free Pass } or { Free Pass > Hiatus } or { Hiatus > Free Pass > Hiatus } scenarios as that would effectively allow a player to skip two to three ACs in a row and we do not want that.
✵ WORLD UPDATES ✵
Be it new NPCs, creatures, places, or some other discovery or creation, the world of Songerein continues to grow! So here are a few things as a result of the Dream Board and other submissions:
NPCs:
- Azasha and Makkara from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. With trade expanding in Songerein, Moonglow Fantasies is a luxury goods store specializing in jewelry, cosmetics, and cosmetology. It is run by two surprisingly tall and impressively muscular women, Azasha and Makkara. Makkara is a skilled jewelry and precious metal craftswoman who loves to give beauty advice or makeovers, while Azasha crafts cosmetics, runs the storefront, and chats up customers.
- Estelle from Overwatch. The Cabaret Rêves Célestes brings a little more music and entertainment to the place. A nice cabaret, a special little piece of Paris, to enjoy a drink and a little food and just enjoy the music in the air. Estelle herself is also a peek at a machine that not only thinks for herself, but dreams; an Omnic that dreams of doing something she enjoys for a much wider audience. Characters can even perform here themselves at night, work in the kitchen, or bus tables. Serve drinks at a bar, too. Cute date spot? Cute date spot.
- Candysmith from Onmyoji. A mysterious middle-aged man who wanders and sells enchanted sugar sculptures with a life of their own. An explanation for some of those living candy creatures roaming around. The taste of his candies is dependent upon his mood, and they tend to be bittersweet if he's feeling down. Loves kids and will give them free treats.
Beastiary:
- Bats. Barok's particular flavor of Extra has attracted bats to the gloomy underside of his treehouse, and therefore the neighborhood in general. What kind of bats? Any and all of them, one hopes, but especially weird magic ones.
Places:
- A spiral well found under crumbling bricks at the edge of the Residential District. Seemingly built into a natural formation with a strange set of ritual-like carvings in the floor at the base, it acts as a conduit for magic, making it a prime location for dreamwalking and dreamotion practice. As a result, creatures such as lightning-charged snakes and siren anglerfish have made their home in the rougher caverns and underground lakes connected there, balancing the reward with risk. Perhaps its tunnels even lead into the crystal caverns, among other things... just don't be too surprised if you find a skeleton or two down there.
- A smithy run by Alphen and Somnus.
- Corgi treehouse. Inside a large, mysterious tree are corgis! And other ~mysterious things~. While the treehouse can be visited, the corgis will be wary of visitors and nothing can be removed, including the dogs. Contact Eustace or Alice to learn more about the treehouse and look for quests related to help uncover the mystery.
- Outer Cliffs and the Wastelands. Another expedition was held to venture outwards the outer reaches of the "world," heading towards the Outer Cliffs separating the Wildlands from the Wastelands. Although no one could get too far into the Wasteland, a lot of new creatures and places were discovered within the Cliffs.
Other:
- Mistletoe. Madhuri will be gathering as much mistletoe as possible from the wildlands and absolutely putting it ALL OVER Reverein, over door frames and anywhere to catch everybody. She may have asked some faeries to help.
- Possibly coffee being served at Dreambucks, if a coffee fairy is found.
- Deep within the Wildlands, 76 and Kazuma found special flowers with anti-noctaere properties inside a cave at the foot of the mountain behind a waterfall. They are guarded/cared for (?) by giant ent-like creatures, and some of the wildlife in the area have gained special properties from consuming the flower. Currently the flowers do not show it can fully prevent Noctaere changes already occurring, but do help calm the Noctaere side of the mind. It has some preventive properties against Noctaere influence as well, when around them or consumed. So far only tested as a form of crude tea and need further research and refining. Noctaere-like creatures find them repulsive, especially in large batches. It's why there are hardly nightmarish creatures in the deep forest and mountains near the area with the flowers.
They're somewhat delicate plants, preferring cooler humid climates and grow in shade. Currently difficult to cultivate them at this time. - Aetherytes progress. G'raha Tia has started looking into making aetherytes and hopes to do something about progress for next month.
- Glowing Mushrooms. Found by Alice and Eustace, there are now various glowing mushrooms around the residential district growing from trees and providing a wonderful source of light at night. There are also lanterns around town with smaller versions of these mushrooms for the same purpose.
- The Mutton Man was encountered by Kainé and Ferris Eris, fought to the point of retreat by Reaper, and then disarmed by Law and Alphen at various times through November. Currently the Mutton Man is still at large, but will remain silent throughout December.
✵ MISTLETOE GUMDROPS ✵
If there's one RP tradition that everyone loves, it's the magic mistletoe. Our version follows the same basic principle, but we're making ours a little more special to fit the game setting.
Instead of "mistletoe" we have cute little slug looking fae called Gumdrops. There are three different types that will fly around hungry for certain types of dreamotion energy. They will "pair" up people and the color they are indicates what kind of energy they're seeking. You can better believe they will be taking advantage of any other mistletoe hijinks going on. Fortunately they will have cues to help the trapped "pair" out and once they are satisfied they will gift a small box of tasty gumdrop candies that will give sweet dreams.
Fluff: White in color, these Gumdrops will be seeking fluffy feelings. Their main words are "fuwa fuwa," "fluff fluff," and "coo cute" and will fly around in the air to give a cute little dance. This is your "friendship level" Gumdrop where hugs, cuddles, and other more platonic gestures of affection will be acceptable. However, don't think it'll end with just one hug. They want a lot of fluff! Several hugs may be required, or they may want to see the pair have a nice time. Maybe even sharing coffee or something to strengthen that bond. 
Make it Shippy: Pink in color, these want to see ♥ love ♥ in the air. Their main phrases will make it quite obvious what they want: "kiss!" "smooch!" It could be just the beginnings of crushes so flirting or chaste kisses, or a bit more serious so get hot and heavy. Well, maybe not too heavy, but they will happily gobble up more intimate displays. Just get a room, they'll wait outside. They also aren't particular about their pairings, which makes this a little dangerous. While they will be able to sense those who may be attracted to each other, these little "matchmakers" will also pull in two random strangers who may not even know each other. At least there are options!
Mistlefoe: Red in color, they want to see a fight. Get those sparks and high emotional waves going through aggression instead. Their phrases are along the lines of "cut!" "smash!" "grrr!!" and "destroy!" Of course they don't want anyone to actually die, but...well not their problem if it happens. While physical fighting will be the most obvious, verbal slaps will also work. The key emotion they want is based on the tension created from conflict and confrontation, but hey, some folks might get a kick out of it.Their appearance is completely random and players can choose which one appears for their characters. It's also possible to chain gumdrops, so it's possible for a pair to first have the Fluff gumdrop and then get stuck with the Shippy one.
Dreamotion energy must manifest for the Gumdrop to be satisfied; just performing the act will not be enough. The effects could be subtle, like temperatures heating up, sparks flying about, snow melting, the sunlight shining around them, little hearts or bubble appearing. But the more prominent it is—like flowers blooming, colors changing, music in the air, a giant heart erupting from the ground, fire and lightning, the ground rupturing and turning to lava—the less time the pair will need to be stuck together—maybe. It's always possible the Gumdrop will find them very tasty and keep them there longer…
✵ UGLY SWEATERS ✵
Hoping to wear some cute holiday outfit this month? At least until the event, those dreams will be dashed as everyone will suddenly find themselves wearing some kind of ugly sweater. Characters, NPCS, the tapirs, everyone in Reverein will be in on. E v e r y o n e.
No matter what they do, no matter what they change to, it's an ugly sweater on top. It could be the same one or it could be something completely new. The cause is some very excited pixies but good luck finding them as they are having too much fun. On the plus side, the sweaters are for keeps so after the end of the month characters can keep their new ugly sweater wardrobe or recycle the materials to make warm clothes for themselves. However, if someone is too ungrateful of their special free gift and keeps trying to destroy the sweaters, all they'll get in the end are shabby clothes. First attempt is understandable. Second is questionable. Try to destroy them more than three times…. Shame, shame, shame.
✵ UPCOMING EVENT ✵
We can't delve into the full details of what's to come, but we can give some highlights and hints as to what to expect:

Too bad it's an easy month so we can't slip in a "We need to save Christmas" plot—
As promised the event will be more lighthearted and just filled with silly games and fun things to do. While it will have similar Bonus prompts and we'll be collecting threads, we expect participation to be more laxed.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, December 18 and will last for the rest of the month. However, ICly the dreamscape won't be formed until around December 25, so this is forward dated by a week. We'll dish out the full details a few days before event start, so look forward to it!

✵ DREAM BOARD: DECEMBER 2021 ✵
How the Dream Board works:
- This is all optional, the quests are just extra content for players and while they can sometimes relate to upcoming or current events, they're just kind of "filler" stuff. Some will be set out in Songerein proper while others may involve dreams.
- The Dream Board can be found at the Plaza and quests will automatically appear on it like a bulletin board. Some will also appear in the journals. Anyone can accept them and rewards automatically generated upon completion of the task. It's a dream world, it's full of magic, it just knows.
- Quests can be done as many times as a character would do them and rewards will be delivered to the character upon completion.
- If you have any questions, comment to the designated subthread.
| 1201 | Firefly Lanterns. There are street lamps and wall lanterns that need to be lit to keep people safe at night. Lure fireflies to lanterns filled with glowing mushrooms stationed around town. The glowing mushrooms are good for the fireflies, and the fireflies are good for the glowing mushrooms! The Residential district has the mushrooms growing on the trees themselves so they can be harvested to help replenish any empty lamps as well as for one's personal use. | A small lantern of one's design that will already have some mushrooms and fireflies inside for personal use |
| 1202 | Gift Makers. While not everyone shares the same holiday as the one celebrated this month, many are familiar with similar concepts, especially when it comes to making gifts and giving them. As there are children mixed in with the new dreamwalkers and more locals try to make businesses for themselves, craftsmen in particular are looking for help in creating goods to help bolster cheer. It's a dream world after all, might as well make the gift of your dreams! Be it using physical labor or try to craft something via dreamotion energy, there are many workshops open and willing to take volunteers who want to try their hand in creating gifts to spread around town. Creating gifts for the fae will also help bolster favorability and good faith between the two populaces. If creation isn't your forte, then wrapping and handing out the gifts will work just as well! | 1) Special gift made from the craftsmen (a practical gift catered towards one's needs) 2) Boost in everyone's spirits |
| 1203 | Christmas Tree Ents. The local trees seem happy now that their trees have been pruned, and just in time. A group of special Ents are trundling through and they bring garlands, wreathes, and peculiar ornaments they wish to share. Help decorate the town and the treehouse with these special gifts with the help of the Ents. Just be careful with the ornaments as they look more like strange eggs, but they don't break if they accidentally fall. Or even if hit! They seem rather sturdy. They do seem to respond to emotions. If someone is feeling upset or angry, they will rattle and make a soft soothing chime-like sound. The cause is a spell that was made for their own protection and it needs to be broken. There are seven dogs so I'll need enough to break the spell on each of them. In addition, assistance in creating a headstone would be appreciate. A friendly dwarf has allowed us access to the coal mines up near the Outer Cliffs and we can take back as much as we need. Just be careful: the coal is very combustible. Volatile and negative emotions will trigger them, so only those who can be calm or at least be happy without being too energetic should head out to the mine. You can use sturdy wagons pulled by Yetoxes. They're sturdy ox-like beasts and prefer levelheaded folks. Kazumathe bear back to normal. Ideally he'd like to turn the bear back to normal, but recognizes that realistically that's probably not possible, so better start with the smaller stuff first i.e. birds, rabbits, etc. Plus if the nightmare energy isn't dispersed after the bear's death, he'll want to take a look at that too.Also this technically falls under questions but since it's related: can/will he be successful? I did not expect applying spyrite-like tech here, but am figuring he may find a way to make a catalyst (aka not-mana-fossil) using the flowers 76 and Kazuma found (maybe crystalize it like amber or by combining it somehow with some of the purer minerals in the mine with good dreamotion conductivity?), inscribe a dispelling/recovery arte into it, then pour in positive dreamotion energy to activate it? Result may be like injecting the target with positive dreamotion, to repel/replace the nightmare energy or something on that line?

It's not an impossible solution, but it is just as difficult as the bear has been seeping in nightmare energy for quite a while. It will take about 3-4 people focusing on using positive dreamotion energy to begin the process, and even then it would take a large amount and time, at least a day, for it to completely "cleanse" the bear. So using a catalyst could aid in the process as they could replace a person. However, the other challenge would be keeping the bear contained so that it won't run off or break free from the process.
It's definitely something to look into trying! And would require some coordination between the others participating.
As for the smaller creatures, those are much easier to purify and would take much less effort and time to do so, so using them as practice would be a good start!

That said ICly he is very much a team player and would welcome any/all assistance and interest from others, heck according to mod answer from the bear quest pacifist route is very much possible. He's just one lad though, so unless he manages to assemble a team of other characters ICly interested in trying to cure the bear, all he can do is save some of the smaller animals affected which will at least prove that he's on the right track with what he's working on.

Since I'm also interested in Jude's quest about anti-noctaere research, I was thinking about making an entry in the journals. (Although I don't yet have an idea that wouldn't be writing his quest request wholesale, lol.) So maybe the flowers will come up if she sticks her nose far enough into this.
